Some points hard to listen to; existence was hard for a long time. Beautiful story of humanity with a hopeful ending. I want to paint some of the images from the story!

Loved learning about the “blue people” of Kentucky and the Pack Horse Library program. The book was a little slow in parts, but I think that was largely due to it being more character-driven than plot-driven. Lots of super interesting details, and I appreciated that the book didn’t shy away from discussing the brutalities of rural life.

This directionless historical fiction was an agonizing read. So much tragedy and sadness with hardly any redeeming qualities. Also, the sentiment that being blue was as bad if not worse than being black in 1930s Kentucky was absolutely ridiculous and a slap in the face to people of color.
Jojo Moyes’s The Giver of Stars is much more entertaining with a more compelling plot.

In the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, "The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek" brings to life the extraordinary tale of Cussy Mary, a packhorse librarian whose story transcends the pages of history. Through the lens of fiction, the novel paints a vivid picture of the WPA program's impact and the resilience of a community facing the harsh realities of racism and discrimination. Cussy's unique condition, Methemoglobinemia, casts a deeper hue on the narrative, making it a compelling read that echoes the struggles and triumphs of a bygone era. This audiobook not only entertains but also educates, leaving listeners with a profound appreciation for the unsung heroes of literature's past.
