Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having read Jen Wilde's Queens of Geek a few years ago, I knew what to expect -- a cute queer romance with a bit of Hollywood glamour thrown in and this book didn't disappoint. The romance was cute and believable, the cast of characters were great, and the story was light and fluffy enough for a light summer read. All in all, I would recommend this book, and her others, for anyone looking for a more diverse/own voice author.

It was very cute and I liked the characters but everything felt very rushed?? It was still a cute queer romance and if that's what you're looking for, read it !

update, dec 3o 2020: this was just as delightful the second time around and I smiled so damn hard the whole time

Anyways this was perfection go read it.

In all seriousness though, this book blew me away. I will recognize that it objectively had some flaws - there were definitely parts that could have been developed a lot more.

But fuck I loved this book.

Going Off Script is a love letter to queerness. It so perfectly sums up so many of my feelings and experiences (as well as so many things that I personally haven't experienced, that are so important too). Reading it felt like a warm hug.

It didn't gloss over the difficulties, but that's what I loved. It shows the difficulties, it shows the hardships. And it says fuck it, you deserve better than this.

Bex and Shrupty (and the rest of the gang) refuse to be silenced. They refuse to stand for the same old bullshit. So they stand up and they do something. And reading that? That made me feel pretty fucking empowered.

This book is a love letter to queerness, and a big 'fuck you' to the allocishet white men who think they can get away with anything, and most of all it's a book about the power that queer girls - that anyone - can have if they stand up and fight.

Read this book y'all. It's pretty fucking amazing.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought this book was a book the was prefect about fandoms, t.v show life and also being in writers room. The show this book was about reminded me so much of the teen wolf fandoms. I really enjoyed this novel and flew through it and it was such a fast pace read. I also really loved the diversity of this novel and was super impressed by it. This book really reminded me of the tensions and hollywood drama that was focused in geekerlla and princess and the fangirl. I really enjoyed this read and iff you like books about fandom life and geek culture and also diverse reads and standing up for what you believe, you should check out this read!

Sometimes you just need something light and fun to get you through a weekend. Going Off Script was the perfect antidote for my weekend boredom! I love that she was post-high school so we had a slightly older main character. I also really enjoyed the whole behind-the-scenes of a TV show!
