I read this over ten years ago, but reread it because I am having my sophomores read it for class. Still a great book--depressing at times, but still great.

The most life-changing 116 pages you will ever read. Genuinely one of the best books I have ever come across. It’s heartbreaking yet immensely powerful.

Absolutely incredible and disturbingly poignant. I am in awe of such bravery and ability to survive. A captivating read.

I think with it being a coming of age almost, (as in we see this individual grow up in maturity and actual age through adolescence), makes it much more powerful. Especially in the final moments when his father died and the language just became much more… staccato?

The emotion was devoid from the writing almost as a reflection of the horror this man went through.
