I was going to say I didn’t have any shocking moments in this book but then I remembered what you did Grady. … GRADY! I did have to remind myself these are teenagers. Of course they’re annoying.
I took some notes as we went in the story. Spoilers in

-Abby is telling the story. Or says she Abby. About the exorcist being dead.
-“we’re in witness protection” a lie if I’ve ever heard one. Come on Abby. You can do better.
-remember. They. Are. TEENS. you were an annoying teenager once. Maybe. Probably.
-omg chi-chis. Ugh. I miss it.
-nah. Gretchen’s parents are either religious or in a cult.
-I knew it. Not in witness protection. Now. Religious or a cult. Probs a cult because we need demons/the devil
-ooooo Reagan’s air traffic controller thing. They went on strike and Reagan told them all to pound sand. We’re still recovering from that.
-this is all a flashback…. Whats gonna happen with Abby in the future. Maybe she’s still possessed by the devil.
-Abby. Gretchen. Glee. Margaret. Our group of friendos
-ouija board. I see.
-no ouija? Just. Skinny dipping?
-I’m enjoying the chapter titles being song titles
-Gretchen is the one possessed.
-these piggish dudes are going to die. Or do I just want them to…??
-reminder to self. This is the same author as ‘southern book club guide to killing vampires’ soooo there could be some shocking things.
-lol. Thinking some Reagan voters are going to just bypass the drug use and focus on the rape….. (it’s not lol. It’s the Reagan voters. And their ‘war on drugs’)
-first of all. Wallace sounds gross. That’s it. There’s no second.
-YES MOM!!!!! YASSSSSSSSSSSS thank god someone is reasonable. YASSSSSSS HIS ASS IS GRASSSSSS AND MOM IS THE LAWN MOWERRR
-YASSSS DAD TOOOOOOOO.
-mom. Don’t…. Don’t turn. You were right in the office.
-well. The tape worm scene wasn’t the greatest to listen to while eating lunch…
-a deadbolt that requires a key on both sides is not to be trusted.
-don’t you dare. DONT YOU DARE KILL THE DOG. DONT YOU DO IT. DOOOOO NOT KILLL THE DOGGGGGGG. …. ….. …. That dog better be okay… … or I’ll send John wick after you
-oh please. Gretchen’s parents are dead. For sure. The fridge has rotted food. They dead. Been dead.
-see…. If Abby isn’t baptized the devil might jump into her. … soooo let’s see how this goes
-dude. Don’t call your dad your daddy. It’s weird.
-okay. Yes. An exorcism of music is delightful.

Rounded up to 4 stars. It was a fun read, and very different from what I would normally pick up. There were a couple of things that I didn't love. The ending was not the best, I assumed that the possession would be explained at the end of the book, it was not, and there were just some threads that seemed to be left hanging.
But, the premise of a demon/popular girl being one in the same A+. 3.5 stars.

4☆ for My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix!
This has gotta be one of my favorite horror books ever. If I could read it over and over again, I swear I would! If you're a fan of the 80s, gore, exorcism, and just amazing writing, then I can't recommend this book enough.
(I keep trying to think of something witty to say, but nada. Just read this book.)

this book just felt very odd. it felt like characters and their emotions were not very fleshed out and often one dimensional. big events happen and just feel very inconsequential. the overall theme of friendship is good but i just did not love the writing all the time

On the surface this book is a campy book about a girl whose best friend gets possessed in the 1980’s during the satanic panic. Underneath it’s a story about the power of connection and that the everyday experiences we have with one another are more powerful than we think.
