The Busy Body was not as I expected. It felt a bit like someone tried to turn a Jessica Fletcher mystery into a noir, but didn't quite pull it off. I never connected with, or liked, the unnamed narrator, 100% because we know next to nothing about them. They might as well have been a reader-insert. I didn't particularly like Dorothy, either.
Graphic: Blood, Murder, and Death
Moderate: Suicide, Infidelity, and Sexual content

This book reminded me of a Hallmark movie, with stiff dialogue and a lack of connection between the characters. The narrator tended to over-explain and ramble, which didn't contribute much to the story. The plot seemed far-fetched, with a character inspired by Hillary Clinton trying to become a detective and teaming up with a self-absorbed ghost writer who came across as dull rather than intriguing. The story lacked a satisfying conclusion, as it only became more absurd as the story progressed.
Moderate: Blood and Murder
Minor: Sexual content, Infidelity, and Child death
