Attention-grabbing modernized who-dunnit with a delightfully acerbic heroine. I laughed and smirked throughout my listening of the expertly voiced audio book. I figured out who dunnit fairly early, but I didn't see the multiple plot twists coming.  As the book ended leaving me wanting more, I will be looking forward to reading more books by this author.

The Busy Body was not as I expected. It felt a bit like someone tried to turn a Jessica Fletcher mystery into a noir, but didn't quite pull it off. I never connected with, or liked, the unnamed narrator, 100% because we know next to nothing about them. They might as well have been a reader-insert. I didn't particularly like Dorothy, either.

This book reminded me of a Hallmark movie, with stiff dialogue and a lack of connection between the characters. The narrator tended to over-explain and ramble, which didn't contribute much to the story. The plot seemed far-fetched, with a character inspired by Hillary Clinton trying to become a detective and teaming up with a self-absorbed ghost writer who came across as dull rather than intriguing. The story lacked a satisfying conclusion, as it only became more absurd as the story progressed.

I liked the general story though I wasn’t particularly keen on the narrating character - she is never identified, given a name or much of a backstory, yet for some inexplicable reason is given a romance subplot? I enjoyed the mystery but would have preferred the author to have picked a lane regarding this narrator.
