I didn't read all of it, but I flipped through each page and read most of the quotes and things. I like the idea, though I'm not sure about the execution. SoulPancake is divided into a number of different section (such as art, love, religion, & technology). Within each you'll find relevant quotes, stories, suggestions, ideas, and/or activities to help you further your knowledge or personal growth, or whatever, in those categories.
I read many of the quotes aloud to my family, and I think we all had fun when I read over all 52 of the suggested ways to live a little bit more over the next year. The pages are brightly colored and sprinkled with corresponding artwork, which is described at the end. The format reminds me of a DK title, in a way. I'm all for working on bettering oneself, and if this book helps anyone achieve that, I think that's a good thing.

I picked this up because: pretty cover, SoulPancake name recognition, Rainn Wilson. The intro was promising, and I got excited about reading the book, then I got into the main section and lost interest. I probably should have paged through it before checking it out, but I had the kids with me, and I am less choosy when they're around.
SoulPancake is essentially a bunch of exercises designed to help you explore some of life's more interesting (chewy) questions -- what's your idea of God, why are we here, what is art -- and I'm sure for people who enjoy workbooks, it fulfills its purpose well, but I just wasn't up for that. I was looking for more in-depth exploration by OTHER PEOPLE, I guess. There are some interviews peppered throughout the book that looked like they'd be worth the time, but the fill-in-the-blanks content of the book disappointed me so much I just returned it to the library without bothering to read them.
It did make a lasting impression, though: I am STILL wondering why birds need jetpacks.

Poses a lot of interesting self-exploratory questions. Plus the design of the book is lovely.

I will recommend this book to every person I know. It challenged every portion of my thinking and encouraged me to do some serious truth searching. It took me about 3 years to get through...because I journaled the entire experience.
