This is a great children's novel. Chloe is an unhappy little girl. She has no friends at school, is constantly compared unfavourably to her over-achieving younger sister by her ambitious mother, and finds comfort in food. She has seen the homeless man, known around town as Mr Stink, sitting in the park with his dog and has wondered about his story. When she approaches him, she discovers that he is a good listener and actually takes an interest in her. Chloe offers Mr Stink her family's shed as a place to stay, but how will her mother react when she finds out, and what effect will it have on her mother's political aspirations?
This book raises the question of judging someone by how they appear, and focusing on what is really important in one's life.

Goodreads recommended another of David Walliams books to me and not quite sure if i'd read it i left it. Two days ago i was at my local bookshop and came across this book. Being familiar with David Walliams comedy shows i wanted to give this a try.
I liked it. It had it's funny bits and i liked the story. However it was stated at the back that is was the new Roald Dahl and i would say that that is taking things a bit too far.

Absolutely delightful! Positively entertaining with an endearing message for children and adults alike!
One star minus for the use of the stereotypical Indian shopkeeper, which come to think of it wasn't really necessary.

Wonderful story about a little girl who befriends a smelly, pongy, wiffy tramp. I listened to the audio of this, with David Walliams and Matt Lucas narrating, it is very funny. If you've seen Little Britain then you'll know what to expect in terms of voices and characterisation. I can see why these books are a huge hit with children, morally meaningful but very funny at the same time. It did remind me a little of reading Roald Dahl as a child, I believe the illustrations in the books are by Quentin Blake as well.
