I’m not sure about this one. The structure and style is clever, journals, letters, recorded conversations, but I never really believed in the central characters, certainly not Isabella the hotelier nor Richard the central male character. And don’t me started on the cliche mother in law from hell or the Greeek characters on the edges.
Now I could buy them as to the edge of realistic, if we accept Evelyn the central character is an unreliable witness. If the improbable,  shady nature of all the characters  is because she in the midst of a catastrophic breakdown caused by the realisation of an appalling incident in her past.
But I’m not sure we should read her that way.
And the central MacGuffin of a curio shop with a stash of old documents collected from visitors to the hotel, no, I’m sorry, that just doesn’t fly unless you’re in some strange twist on Mr Benn…..

Despite my better judgment, I kept reading this because there were some twists and turns that had me OMG-ing. But this book is all over the place. I get that it's a mystery, but it was confusing to the point of irritation. The entire experience left me annoyed.
