I absolutely adored this book! It takes the mystery of the Mothman to a whole new level, and has some dark themes. It was a fun read, and I think it fits with the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys vibe pretty dang well.

A middle grade novel about Mothman? With two of my favorite things together, it's almost like this was written for me. This was fun, scary, and had a lot of heart.

This was a cute story. I mostly liked it because my friends and I love Mothman, but the book would be a good mystery for kids.

Received from Netgalley.

I won this book in a goodreads giveaway (and subsequently lost track of it during a move) and I am sorry it took so long to find it because this is a really great middle great paranormal book. It was spooky at all the right places, a little sad as well, and heartwarming in general. I'd highly recommend it.

Ever gone on a haunted house tour? Whispered "Bloody Mary" into a bathroom mirror? Stayed up all night at a sleepover telling ghost stories? Josie isn't the type of girl to do any of those things. Since her mother died of cancer, she has been busy helping her Aunt Barb take care of the family and helping her father with the family's auction business. But when they are chosen to handle the estate auction of John Goodrich, everything changes. She and her brother Fox find an old Polaroid camera that mysteriously prints out photos, even though it is out of film, and the photos show Mr. Goodrich! When they begin to investigate, they find out that Goodrich is tied to the spooky Mothman, who appears in an area before a major disaster. Does that mean their town is next?

Hayes has created an intriguing story that mixes the supernatural, the world of estate sales, and family bonds. As the siblings investigate the history of Mothman sightings and try to unravel the connection Goodrich and their own family have to the apparition, we get to see the way they support each other and their younger brother, father, aunt and uncle. There are typical sibling rivalries (I love their "last doughnut standing" competition), but also loyalty and love. What makes the story seem more real is the backdrop of the family trying to go on after their tragic loss. And that loss also makes it easier for the kids to understand Mr. Goodrich's sorrow at the loss of his wife, even though it happened back before they were born.

Recommended for middle grade readers who enjoy spooky stories, especially the kind where kids have to take charge and try to save the day.

A delightful mystery about a newer American monster--the Mothman. Readers will enjoy discovering Josie and her family's attempts to stay together during tough times and defeat the monster. There were a few moments that were almost too convenient, but overall, a good choice.

Although the concept is fascinating, there were sections of the book that felt a little slow. I would have condensed it a bit. However, the spooky factor will keep middle schoolers engaged.

Josie, Fox, and Mason live in the most haunted town in America, but the only strange things Josie ever saw were the few weird customers that came to her family's auction house. When they get their hands on a haunted camera that prints pictures of a ghost of the recently deceased local hermit, they are drawn into a one hundred year old mystery.

It sounds exciting from the back copy, but my interest waned before I even made it half way through.

I was barely a quarter of the way through Mothman's Curse before I was overwhelmed with things to keep track of.

Do not let the cover deceive you, this book is CREEPY. I'm a grown woman (or so I tell myself) and had to fall asleep with the hallway light on after finishing this guy. Think of Alvin Schwartz's "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" but as a full-blown story. Or Goosebumps to the next level. Great stuff!!

I enjoyed this book greatly. I loved the story and the mystery of mothman. I love that the monster is based on the true accounts from people in the 60's, of were sightings all over the city of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The story was very engaging and the back story to the monster was the best. I really recommend this book if you like monsters, a good mystery, and excitement. RECOMMENDED.
