Wow! This book was such a good read! You’ve got enemies to friends (possibly more in future books), a princess with a lost identity, betrayal, amazing side characters and a magical quest. This book was definitely more of a YA romance, but I have a feeling the romance will pick up more in the coming books. Atlas is so broody and intense that there’s no way it won’t pick up. At first, Shaye irritated me a bit, but only because I have a low tolerance for whiny, spoiled female characters. BUT for me that just means that Morgan wrote the part of a princess perfectly! You can’t help but feel sorry for Shaye a bit…I mean she learns that her parents lied to her, she’s not who she thinks she is and her fiancé may not be the man she thought he was. Throw in Atlas and the attraction she feels for him, and this poor girl is living on a roller coaster. But she shows amazing determination when she chooses to embrace things, and figure out who she really is. The adventure is fantastic, the action is fast paced, and we get a really good look at our motley crews’ magical abilities because Shaye gets kidnapped a lot! The chemistry between all of the characters is amazing! Their bonds and friendships really show, and the way Nyx, Finn and Eris’s welcome Shaye into the group is really wonderful. Of course, the tension between Shaye and Atlas is off the roof and I can wait to see that develop. My only wish is that we would get Atlas’ POV every now and then. Overall, this story was wonderful and an excellent beginning to a new fantasy series!

Loved the characters in this book ! Took me a few chapters to get into it but then I was hooked ! Love the story line and the ending was perfect ! Cannot wait for the next one ! Enemies to lovers and friendship ! Must read !

A solid mix of slow burn romance, betrayal, magic, and action. This was an intriguing world with bounds of magic and wonder and a sheltered princess in the heart of it all. I loved the banter, dynamics, and court political intrigue. The storytelling was excellent and the plot felt well executed. Solid 4.5 stars.

I keep seeing DNF from other reviewers because of Shaye’s character and honestly, I almost did too! But this book actually really surprised me and I’m glad I kept going because it ended up being one of my favorite books of 2023. Shaye does start off a bit annoying and naive but you start to understand why, and her character really strays away from that as the book goes on. Purple eyed shadow daddy… yah that’s a little familiar but Atlas is very much his own character and I loved getting to read about him and his brothers. I think for me, I know there’s overlaps with ACOTAR, but I’m not going to let that keep me from reading a book or constantly compare the books because they still are different stories. If every shadow daddy and brothers book was labeled a spoof of ACOTAR, there would be no books left. So that's my little rant that yes there are similarities but it's not ACOTAR, so please stop treating the story as if it's supposed to be!! Anyways, the side characters are all so great and I love all the personalities there are, but they all work together so well. Shaye definitely gets better as the book goes on and you realize her Stockholm Syndrome is really not that, and her actions and feelings are justified. If you like hidden powers, hidden identity, slow burn, dragons, found family, this book is for you! I was lucky enough to get an ARC of A Ballad of Beasts and Brothers, and PHEWWW the story only gets better. Don't let the first 20% keep you from finishing the book, it's worth it!

I can't really get on with the writing, but the main thing that broke any immersion I had for the story was describing the MMC smelling like "leather and sulphur" - why has no one else picked up that sulphur (and therefore the MMC) smells like rotten eggs?!?

Loved this book so much I had to immediately get the second to continue the story. At first I didn’t find the main character likable and was annoyed a bit of the time but eventually she grew on me. It’s a wonderful adventure and the author introduces you to the world in such a great way throughout the story. There are definitely a few surprises throughout that make it hard to put down. In the end, I was rooting for all the lovable characters and couldn’t put it down!
