This was exactly what I was looking for for a spooky fall read. I struggle with dealing with death and having extreme anxiety when addressing or thinking about it and this was such an amazing read for that. I absolutely adore the art style and the black and white/red colour scheme. The story is so great with Sarah loosing her mother and then dealing with the theme of death and immortality using vampirism and the issue of what it would mean to actually live forever. I loved the ending and its a definite one I will read again!

this one had beautiful art. the contrast of the black and white and red was gorgeous.
my only real complaint is how absolutely despicable the MC was. like... I didn't like her from the beginning and then she just kept doing things over and over to prove that she sucked.
The story was good though. i know we needed the really sucky MC parts to make the story whole but man....it's just baffling how stupid she was/mean she was/conniving she was. UGH.
BUT like i said, i loved the art in this. my favorite characters were probably Lilac and her brother. Lilac moreso than her brother because of...well..I CAN'T TELL YOU! anyway! their abilities made this whole story way better in my opinion.

“Grief is love in its most savage form.”
Firstly I feel like I need to give my biggest compliments to the art in this because WOW. It was originally the thing that enticed me into reading it because someone posted a picture of one of the panels and I immediately knew it was something I was interested in. The contract between the black and white background with the occasional use of red to show important aspects of the story or to highlight something to us is incredibly well done and is just visually very appealing. The art during scenes of everyone’s powers being used was probably my favourites, especially scenes of Lilac and Oliver’s.
I also loved the whole meaning behind this. At it’s core, it’s a story of grief intertwined with paranormal and horror elements. We see the way in which every character processes their grief and loss and how the pain of it impacts every decision they make. How grief will always be a part of us but we can learn to deal with it in much healthier ways. This is a very beautiful story that everyone will be able to connect with in at least some way.
Every single character in this I was able to connect with. Even if I didn’t like some of them and didn’t agree with some of their actions, I was able to see their reasonings for it, to emphasise with them and that’s a truly beautiful thing.
