SO much unnecessary detail/backstory. I wanted to know who actually committed the murder, but the interesting parts were completely buried.

Screw this book, this book was a waste of a tree’s life. My hatred of this book is highly dedicated to the fact that we had to study, ponder and dedicate our entire soul to trying to figure what the hell this book was about. So does this book have messages that speak to society and remain important to this day and age? Absolutely? Are the characters somewhat likeable? Not really? Did I give a shit about this book? No.

The writing of this entire book can only be described as flowery and fluffy and I’m a reader who sometimes enjoys verbose writing but THIS STRETCHED MY PATIENCE LIKE NOTHING EVER HAS BEFORE. I also have nothing against erotica or sexual scenes in books, sometimes it’s cool and really adds to the characters relationships but there was such needlessly sensual scenes just placed throughout the entire book. There’s quite a few examples but the first example that comes to mind is the guy who is later just killed and one of the last scenes is him just having sex with his wife in the shower? Did we need that????

This entire book could have been so much better if every single page hadn’t been filled with so much random and unnecessary speakings about minute details that just aren’t necessary and musings about life.

This book is the fictional translation of the guy that we all know that doesn’t like hanging out with people because he’s too wise, he knows too much about life, he’s always thinking about the philosophy of human nature and is almost always a class a douche, he likes to hang out with people of higher beings who think differently and aren’t like other people. No thanks.

This book can be described as a big f***ing question mark.

Yeets book into the void.. then fishes it out because it’s a library book that needs to be returned and ya best believe I’m not paying shit for this book.

Snow Falling on Cedars had a little bit of everything - murder mystery, love story, the Pacific Northwest, islands in Puget Sound, WWII, racism, Japanese internment camps, small town life, and courtroom drama. It was very well written and enjoyable to the very end.

Gave it about 40 pages to draw me in, and it didn't. I'll try it again another time.

I would give it 0 stars but given the amount of research the author did to write the historical setting accurately deserves praise.

Seemed like every male character got a few sentences dedicated to his penis. Dead guy? HUGE penis, even the coroner was shocked at the size (because the coroner's penis is smaller). Main character? Masturbates twice a month because he is pathetic. Defense attorney? He's getting old so his doesn't work so well, can't keep an erection (but woo boy if he could keep one he'd get one looking at the dead guy's wife).

Awful.
