This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Thank you to Sonya for my copy of this book. I loved Sonya's The Six series so I was very exited when I heard she had new book. This book was a little different to The Six series but it still had Sonya's core themes and style throughout.

Lexie has been suffering some of the worst kinds of bullying for the past 3 years. There were two ring leaders but there were many others who while they didn't participate didn't do anything to help. I thought that Lexie was incredibly brave. She goes through so much and not through any fault of her own. Just because some individuals think its fun to make other people feel terrible.

Dylan used to be one of Lexie's close friends. But over the last three years they have drifted apart as his knew friends torment and torture Lexie. He does nothing to stop them, too caught up in his own personal hell to see what is going on around him. Dylan was a bit of a jerk at the beginning of this book. He's a self confessed jerk but a jerk nonetheless. He does however redeem himself throughout the book.

I liked that Sonya used her writing to highlight a key issue in the world. Bullying in whatever form has been around for a long time and I am sure it will continue but this book highlights that we are not alone and that together we can overcome the bullies.

As always Sonya's writing captures you and your heart. You find yourself rooting for these characters without even realising it. I had some moments where I was so choked up over the scenes. It is hear breaking but it is also beautiful.

I highly recommend this book for any YA lover.

Usually I love Sonya Loveday's books and devour them, however this was a completely different experience. I felt like we were dropped into the middle of all of the drama with not a lot of explanation as to what was happening. It would have been ideal to understand Lexi & Dylan's past, more explanation or context around Lexi's bullying & what she endured during those 3 years and her current relationships.

Also, the hype around Lexi & Dylan's mom's leaving and that it was the talk of the town & that the kids were so hesitant to visit their mom's was so dramatic. Everything leading up to finding out why their mom's left was so hyped up that I was expecting this big crazy story, it was such a let down when their reasons were finally explained.

I just didn't like the flow of the book, it seemed a bit choppy and parts that I think needed more attention were just skipped over. There was also no resolution in my opinion. Yes Lexi finally feels free from the bullies, but there was no major moment in which it happened, just a quick thought to herself- again a very anti-climactic event and a let down. Why didn't she just tell herself she wasn't going to be bothered by it this whole time? What happened to Ainsley? She never gets in trouble or pays for the abuse she did, and that didn't sit well with me- there was no moral to the story.

I enjoyed this book but think it had some pacing issues.I felt like the story began in the middle and would have benefited from chapters which explored the past such as; Lexie’s childhood friendship with Dylan, the 3yrs of bullying she experienced and her friendship with Heath as well as Dylan’s relationship with his friends/Ainsley. I also would have liked some chapters which focused on Lexie/Dylan’s relationships with their fathers and their home lives before their mothers left so we could truly understand Marcy/Rebecca’s motivations for leaving. On a more positive note I enjoyed Dylan/Lexie’s characters and the development of their friendship/romance even though the ending was a bit cheesy and simplistic.

If you’re looking for an easy to read contemporary i’d say give this a chance.
