I enjoyed this book. I like historical fiction, I love romance. When you put both of them together in one book, done well. Well then it's an enjoyable book. I liked the characters. Overall this is one of the netter books i’ve read this year
Graphic: War, Injury/Injury detail, Death, and Grief
Minor: Pandemic/Epidemic

While I did enjoy this book there was some crude language and descriptions and a bedroom scene that I had to skip.

Was a very good storyline. I think would have been a 4 star for me if there hadn't been so much sexual tension.... Not really appealing to me. Otherwise I loved it.

This book was such an easy quick read filled with wonderful characters. I honestly could not put it down during the second half of the book. Make sure you read this first THEN After the War is Over so you then know what happens to some of the characters!

I read this four years ago and wanted to reread it as my tastes have changed significantly since then.
I didn’t abhor this as much as I thought I would. I detested the later books that this author wrote but this one wasn’t quite as terrible.
The plot had a decent amount of war and hospital scenes in it. Much as I hate books that romanticize and use war as a backdrop for a stupid romance, this at least had some plausible plot.
I wasn’t mad about the leads: I thought Lilly was a massive airhead and Robbie was very emotionally immature. The sex scene made me wince. It was terribly written and over the top. Honestly, if you need to stop and explain the facts of life to your partner during foreplay... that’s probably a bit of a red flag. It came across as very creepy and forced.
Having read a few of the author’s later books, I do wonder what happened. As much as this is very reliant on coincidence and little to no conflict, it’s still engaging. Subsequent books are overly simplified, YA-ish, angsty, and uninteresting. While this book doesn’t stand up tremendously well to scrutiny, I maintain it’s the most enjoyable of the lot.
