3.33 AVERAGE

3.5 rounded up because it is a devourable book. Two couples and a child go on a trip to Rome, then Sicily. Tangled histories and alliances get in a further snarl. The POV rotates among the four adults, and Ephron does a good job with the plot, dropping breadcrumbs in a string, then pulling them tight, like a necklace. For a while, it had an "anything goes" feel, and I had no idea what would happen. Then, the strings get pulled tighter and the things that happen feel inevitable. All four adults and the child are flawed and unlikeable, so don't go looking for friends in this text. But watching these flawed damaged characters bump up against one another, sometimes literally, was a romp.

Lizzie i Michael przechodzą właśnie gorsze chwile w swoim małżeństwie.

Hmmmm, how to describe this book...a completely different genre than I am used to. I hated almost all the characters but was also hooked on them. I guess the best way to describe this book was that although I did not feel connected to ANY of the characters, I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I wanted to figure out Snow especially. If it had been a better, more conclusive ending (in terms of Snow) I might have given this book 5 stars. I did love Lizzie's final chapter though :-)

I found the characters to be whiny and annoying. I had a hard time connecting with them when all they did was complain and cheat on each other
emotional medium-paced
Diverse cast of characters: No

This was 3 1/2 stars for me but that was mostly because I kept getting distracted and couldn't keep track of the characters. Who was married to who? And who was having affairs? An odd, somewhat annoying preteen daughter who was the child of Finn and Taylor but kept hanging out with other adults also led to some confusion.

Is Siracusa really as unappealing as the characters make it sound? Why did people who insisted on only staying in top drawer hotels go there? It's a World Heritage Site which the characters seemed oblivious to. The characters often hold opposing views and later one of them discovered its charms. The ending makes it worth sticking with despite the unlikeable characters who each only thinks of themselves..

Great story, written very well. Thoroughly enjoyed the suspenseful ending.

Halfway through this book I thought, "God, I just want to be finished with this book so I can read something else." Horribly disappointed in the characters (unless the author intended to write them as terrible caricatures that embody the decline of humanity, then bravo!), the redundancy of the story (the same scenes told from four different viewpoints with a minimal amount of new or interesting details revealed in each telling), and the totally-not-surprising ending that left me annoyed more than anything else. There was hardly a bit of suspense; it is certainly not a "psychological thriller" as the book jacket claims.

Rich, layered characters in beautiful places having marital problems. They should be a dime a dozen now, but every season brings a new publisher with a very readable take and Siracusa is one of those. I read it in two sittings.

Terrible book, don't waste part of your life like I did
