had a good twist at the ending and some really great writing, but it also dragged at times and every. single. character. is. insufferable. (it was intentional and drove the plot but like. holy shit, these people are exhausting)

I saw that one coming! The first three quarters of the book were blasé relationship issues and the child was so obvious. The part when the couples talk at the end was reminiscent of Dinner by Herman Koch. The ending really helped the book for me. A quick, twisted read.

This was...uninteresting and trite. Felt very done before. Also, most of the characters in the book are entirely unlikeable, which isn't something I enjoy reading.

I have not been able to finish any books lately about well-off people having problems. But I raced through SIRACUSA in a few nights even though it technically falls into that category. It has a good premise, strong use of shifting perspectives, and knows when to throw an unexpected plot twist into the mix. It's also a little bit of a mess, which keeps the book from being a go-and-tell-all-your-friends-to-read-it-right-away book and more in the interesting beach read category.

Lizzie and Finn dated in their 20's and stayed in touch after breaking up. Now both married to other people (Lizzie to famous playwright Michael and Finn to trophy wife Taylor) they take an ill-advised joint vacation. Also along for the ride is Finn and Taylor's daughter Snow, a classic example of the overused overly-quiet-child-who-may-harbor-deep-emotions. This vacation is a terrible idea and they all know it. Both marriages are at a kind of breaking point, though not everyone realizes it. The shifting perspectives between the 4 adults gives you some interesting alternate versions of the same event.

It ends too quickly and doesn't feel as tightly plotted as it should. But any book I read these days (I'm in a super picky slump) is worth picking up.

“Eventually he lied to me because eventually a liar lies to everyone, that’s the truth.”

This was a good one. The tension was skillfully built. I would recommend to people who liked Do Not Become Alarmed or maybe Big Little Lies, though I haven’t read that, just watched the TV show.

Pretty entertaining. Makes you never ever want to go on vacation with friends. Although it doesn't seem like anyone is very friendly to one another in this book. I liked that it had the point of views from each character. It made you get to know each person individually.
