Was so close to not finishing, but wanted to know who did it. The twists and turns with the characters I really didn’t feel and were frustrating.

This book was well paced, and I really enjoyed reading from two perspectives. I really thought it was a solid four, but one thing at the end made me roll my eyes because it seemed ridiculous, but as I’ve thought of it over the last few days it really seemed out of place and makes me think less of the book.

this really kept my attention - until the last 90 minutes. Meija didn't stick the landing - really absurd end took away from my enjoyment of the book.

Forensic accounting is not a term widely used or generally known. Most of us could only make a wild guess. That will change once one has read "Strike me Down" by Mindy Menjia.

Simply put, the terms means the use of in depth accounting analysis to root out fraud, embezzlement or some other crime involving large sums of money.

In this novel, using female world class mixed martial arts competition as a theme, the author takes us on a roller coaster ride (as well as long walks through the Minneapolis downtown urban bridges) as the heroine and her team try to find 20 million in missing dollars.

Craftily written, we are kept on the edge of our seats ( or beds) as the analysis sifts through both financial and personal clues until a climactic finish.

One of few books which truly holds my interest.

Who’s have thought a book about a CPA would be so riveting? I had suspicions but one twist at the end was quite unexpected. Solid thriller!

3.5 stars rounded up, mostly because as a (former?) auditor, I found some of the accounting related quips quite amusing (and also maybe a little profound if I didn’t think too hard. The line about love not depleting with use? Nice.)
I will say that it makes the field of forensic accounting look a lot sexier and faster paced than it actually is, but I’m willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of the story. Also I never once experienced the “conceptual framework for independence work[ing] like a living machine at the edges of [my] mind” but maybe that’s why I didn’t last long in my own accounting career. Anyway, this was a fun quick read, but not likely one I’ll revisit.

From start to almost ending it was quite hard for me to pick the book up but the ending is satisfying haha the plot twists aren’t that shocking and quite expectable

UGH. First half had me super into it - 4/5 stars. The second half fell off a cliff and by the time I got to the last few chapters ....... I was just disgusted that I’d kept reading because it was like the author ran out of time and just starting pulling random old drafts out and pasting stuff in just to finish. So disappointed that I dedicated days to reading this when my time is so precious. I can appreciate a quality thriller. This was NOT one of them.
