One of my favorite romances, where the girl is pretty and smart, and the hero is intelligent, witty, and truly noble (almost foolishly so). Boys, the balcony scene is where it's at, let me tell ya!

“All our souls are written in our eyes.”

Really funny, entertaining, and a little sad.

•Cue "Roxanne", but the Moulin Rouge version.
•Nothing like cousin love.

•Some great digs about a big nose in here

an extremely quick read for me thank goodness. wow. that. was insane. so much sadness. this was my first time reading a play for fun (and not for school) and I will say it's a very different structure compared to regular novels. I will say it was quite difficult getting used to the play format and trying to read and understand the story thru the play but I got it more as the story progressed. tbh the beginning was like kinda boring but I thought it picked up rather quickly after the second or third act which I really enjoyed. but, I still feel as if I haven't completely absorbed everything from the text yet so I will definitely be coming back to this book in the future. I think I wasn't able to completely enjoy it bc most of the time I spent reading this book was me trying to get used to the play format and me trying to understand what's going on. but once I got all of that the story was incredibly fast paced and I was flipping thru the pages like crazy. I thought the dialogue was written very well and expressed the emotions very well. and the letters that Cyrano wrote??? absolute gorgeous lines. especially when he says something like "you have stolen my heart, so you should lend me yours now" or something like that. man I swooned. the love letters are so so so so cute I loved them so much. anyways that was such a tragic story. I'm really glad I read it tho. a supes fun book to start out my year with LMAO. idk I don't necessarily like reading plays as much and this one didn't really change my opinion but it was still good. alright I think that's enough to say on this book. maybe I'll say more when I reread it in the future. but for now, solid book, please read it if you wanna feel devastation and heartbreak.

Kind of interesting. Not wildly engaging.

I definitely really appreciated this book, because it takes you in a tremendous adventure fulfilled of a love conquest and it's absolutely lovely. I have after seen the French movie which was also very nice! Une belle lecture!

I had no idea this was a play until I started reading as I always thought of this as a novel but what a play.

Cyrano is everything I didn't realize I needed right now as there's different elements that caught my attention, kept me reading at a slower pace to keep up with the older English but I was captivated by it.

It's a short play that has a full cast of characters each with a different voice and tone and having read this play, it's nice to see the intro at the beginning to set the scene and it let my imagination run.

As a play, I'm sure seeing this would be beautiful but as I'm reading it, unlike a novel, there is not a lot for characterizations or world building and maybe that's reflective of the time in which it was written that Rostand didn't feel a need to include so I used past film adaptations to help my imagination but other than that, this was a great read.

I’m not a huge fan of reading plays, much in the same way I’m not a fan of looking at sketches. To me reading a play is trying to enjoy something not in its final form, in its intended form. I’d much rather see a play or look at a fully formed painting.

And yet after watching the new Cyrano film I was curious of how much was captured in the play without the benefit of staging, actor’s prowess, or musical score. And I have to say a lot of the wit, charm, and sadness comes through. No, it wasn’t my cup of tea, but I can see how easy someone else might fall in love with the words on the page as opposed to said aloud.
