2.5

I gave it 2.5 stars because they wrote a book & I have not done that.
Lots of good info on nutrition and how/why the produce we eat nowadays (in the US at least) are not the same level of nutrients as our grandparents had, so supplementation is often times quite beneficial. Much of this book is particularly good info for those who are new to nutrition/lifestyle medicine, BUT...
I could not recommend this book in good conscience, because ~264 pages in, you learn that they are pushing a particular supplement company, (Truehope Nutritional Support/ EMPowerPlus and Daily Essential Nutrients) so that is exceedingly difficult to ignore.  On page 7-8 they do /mention/ these companies, but by the time you get much later in the book, you've forgotten about that, and they state plainly that essentially doubling or tripling any old OTC supplement brand could cause toxicity but they recommend those earlier specific brand to avoid that. *cue eye roll* I suppose this could certainly happen, but saying that the specific brands that they're recommending can be counted on is sheisty.

Additionally. While I do wholeheartedly and scientifically agree with a "lifestyle/nutrition first" mindset and application concerning the mental health aspects they discuss in the book, I do not think that the fear mongering they pepper throughout this book is helpful to anyone, in any way (multiple examples of this throughout the book, but pg 274 "Pros & Cons: Nutrients Wont Kill You-But Prescription Pharmaceuticals Certainly Can" felt especially irritating).

(I personally always try to move holistically first when dealing with any physical or mental challenge, but I also believe that pharmaceuticals have their place when necessary. So, the fear mongering really irks me as medicine is & should be practiced intersectionally.)

Unnecessarily long and repetitive. Took me so long just to finish this.
