Story was meh. Didn't care about the plot or characters. If the book was written as just plain text, I would have given up after 1/3 of it. My favourite part was the sisters grey book, and I had difficulty staying engaged in the other parts.
The illumination was wonderful however, and is what really made it entertaining for me. I loved the illustrations, letters, and page decorations, and I wish a lot more books were printed this way. I found it clever and elevating - this isn't just a book, but also an interesting reading experience and piece of narrative book art.
The ending of the story was bizarre and unsatisfying, but for the story it's probably the best outcome - it kept me thinking about the tale after putting it down, as opposed to forgetting it all immediately if it had wrapped up satisfyingly.
