Big fat late 90's romance to be read while sitting in a screened in porch by a lake, turning the slightly damp pages is nostalgic - the high drama, the comedy, the over the top characters and plot. And while you don't exactly miss that era of alpha males (and some problematic sexual dynamics) you forgive it because it reminds you of a certain time and place.

The nuances of the character construction (especially the ambiguities of the mourning Gabe) almost make up for the far-too-sweet epilogue and its mystical faith-healing thread. The Ethan and Kristy subplot was also a treat.

YAY a strong heroine mcFINALLY. who knew SEP is capable. this was not as sad as everyone made it out to be. people are legit crying in these reviews, but i honestly didn't see anything to sad happen (apart from gabes gun scene...) this was a great read and rachel kept me and everyone on her toes. i feel like gabe didn't really grovel enough and cal did not get hit hard enough for giving rachel that check. overall, this was a great Chicago stars read, and def has redeemed me for the rest of the series.

Not a romance reader myself but read for RA class, I was surprised just how much I felt sucked into the story. It's deep and thoughtful and leaves you wanting what will happen next to our main character. It hits a little too hard with some tropes and tying up all lose ends in a positive way but that also could be my cynical nature.

I actually really liked this one. Gabe and Rachel were wonderful. Susan Elizabeth Phillips seems to love the enemies to lovers trope and it was done beautifully in this book. I thought the initial conflict (and tragedy) in both of them was very real and emotional. They both struggled with so much and both Gabe and Rachel were in so need of love. I think this might be my favourite of the series so far. It kind of reminded me of a KA novel? Very tragic with a strong but broken alpha-male. Loved it!

Wow. Another day, another book I can’t believe I reluctantly finished. This book was so bad I had hopes based on the first chapter, but quickly my hopes dwindled. I finished this only because I needed something to read as I fell asleep the last couple nights. Not only are Gabe and rachel extremely rude towards each other, Gabe is very abusive in their first couple interactions towards a woman and her child who are living in their car. Literal sexual abuse that he tries to justify. About 75% through the book, Everything becomes weirdly faith-based. I hated the chapters about pastor Ethan and Kristy They are the only more unlikable characters in this book. But rachel, becoming a faith-based healer when she has spent her entire adult life trying to understand that her ex-husband’s faith-based healing was a scam?? Insane. And you’re telling me that she never found out that the kids stuffed animal was full of literal diamonds even though it was his only toy for about four years?? She’s an idiot. This author had a really interesting premise. with the characters’ backgrounds and totally ruined it. And I almost forgot the worst part of the book when rachel asked Gabe to minimize his Dead wife just to make her feel better. And he does it. He spent the entire book in such a state of depression, that it justified him being an asshole and literally sexually abusing her just to say that rachel was so much better than his ex-wife, especially the weird comment about her in bed. This was the worst!!!

Dream A little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Her swindling husband dies in a crash and Rachel and her son go back to her home in Salvage, NC
Rachel Stone and her 5 yo son has a scandalous past and nothing much left to her name.
Gabe Barner wants to be left alone. He has lost his whole life and child and sees her as a nuisance.
Over time he tries to help her and her son out and gets a bit too close at times. He is still healing and can he move past it?
She has a hard life trying to convince others it was her husband cheating them all and not her. Some in town think she can be their miracle and cure them from their ailments.
Hot steamy sex scenes. She realizes that there is no treasure where she thought it was and maybe it was time to move on...
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
