Leah Burke is a bitch.
This was technically a reread because I read the book a few years back when I was younger. It was the first actual sapphic paperback I read (not including Wattpad or ao3 fanfics) and I got it from my local library. I guess I just decided to reread it because I wanted to see if it's really as good as I remember or if it's just nostalgia.
It's definitely safe to say that it was mostly nostalgia. I remember feeling like Leah was the most badass book character and that I wanted to be like her. Now she's just really bitchy and mean to everyone (even her mom for no reason). Yeah, I get she's anxious about a lot of things, but telling her mom that she's only dating Wells for his money is not something I liked at all. Leah's whole personality and "I'm not like other girls"/"prom is stupid" vibes just really irked me. I feel like one of the biggest things that irritated me was her saying she doesn't like Abby because she's too pretty (whatever that means).
I've read 3 Becky Albertalli books and for some reason all of them have casual biphobia slipped in (even coming from bisexual characters). It feels a little off-putting to me for Leah to tell Abby, who's still figuring herself out, that her thinking she's bisexual is wrong.
I don't know how it's possible that I disliked Leah so much, but I loved the Leah and Abby aspect of the book.

This Book was really hard for me to get in to at the start, which caused me to put it down and leave it alone for months. With the goal of finishing it so I could trade it in for credit at my local book store, I powered through the slow beginning and it got a lot easer to just keep reading. In saying that there were some things I liked about this book, and a lot of things I really did not like. I loved that Leah was a bad ass drummer, plus sized Bi girl that was 100% herself but what got old real fast was how much of an asshole she is with her stupid attitude. This may be due to the fact that I am 28 and high school and teen bullshit is so un relatable to me but the high school is ending omg College story was just so boring to me. I also really felt that they kept relying on your love of Simon from the first book as they just insert him so often in random situations it’s like it’s for you to remember it’s part of the same group of his friends. If I had to go back and chose to read this again I would not, but it gets points for LGBTQ+ representation and having a main character girl that is not cookie cutter.

I’ve had 3 years to think on this and tbh I think I originally rated this so wrong. I was at a hype of Becky albertalli but thinking it over this book wasn’t all that good. Leah was incredibly rude and I just wanted to hit her over the head with a 900 page book to knock some manners into her. Also I didn’t buy into the relationship of Leah and Abby. It felt forced and naive. There was no chemistry.

I kind of liked this but also didn't. 3 stars, because even with my problems I did enjoy it probably more than others. I had lower expectations because of GR friends reviews but while I understand their issues with it, I did not hate it this book.

It was warm and fluffy. I probably would've liked this book better had it not been a sequel to it. Cause some of the characters suddenly just flipped. Like there was no clue to Abby and Leah's bisexuality in that book. Wouldn't Simon of all people have said something doubting their straightness.
I'm confused about Leah, she's sarcastic sometimes which is cool. But sometimes she's literally being a bitch for no reason. She has the coolest mom ever and she giver shit for no reason. Not cool. Not cool. But I understand how she's self conscious about her art and coming out even though her friends most definitely would accept her, sometimes you just are.
The Romance. Had I not read Simon Vs I probably would've liked it alot more. Cause while I could feel the attractive tension between Leah and Abby, I just couldn't picture this. I feel like Leah should've had some other love interest, just didn't feel right with Abby.
The best thing about it was those friends. I missed them. Bram is just so adorable love him to bits, I feel like we didn't get much of him in last book, so I loved it. I felt sorry for Garret, poor guy. Nick's one of those characters that I think just flipped, I found him so different.
