So excited to see where this world goes! Super compelling world building and I’m loving the characters so far. Can’t wait for more.

This is a well-written romance between an octopoid creature and a human woman. I'm glad I read it, but it wasn't a book that I found to be a page turner or so riveting that I couldn't put it down. The author's Infinite City series was a lot more exciting to me.

I think I just didn't connect to the main characters very well. Jax's personality didn't do it for me. I didn't like how often he would just leave her alone. Also Macy made some decisions that frustrated me. She's a 25 year old woman, which I'm glad she wasn't younger than that. I still found it hard to believe she did suspect
that she was pregnant at any point during her "sickness."

The characters that I did like were Arkon, and eventually even Dracchus. I am excited to read books about them.

Mehh
It started getting too sappy at the end.

So, a few days ago, I moved this to my DNF shelf because it was not holding my attention and I didn’t like the narrators. Since then, I’ve started and abandoned several audiobooks and have come to the conclusion that audiobooks just aren’t working for me right now. In light of that, I resumed listening to this because nothing else seemed good so why not? And I hate to waste one of my Hoopla borrows on a DNF. I still had trouble becoming engaged in this story. Neither of the characters seemed particularly fleshed out or interesting. I didn’t realize this was sci-fi. I think I would have preferred a kraken story that had a mystical/fantastical feel to it. I honestly completely zoned out quite a bit while speeding through the last half of the book, so there is probably a lot I missed, and I debated whether I should even put this on my ‘read’ shelf. The audio narrators were both pretty bad. Not bad enough that I couldn’t listen, but bad enough to significantly detract from my enjoyment. The female narrator, Hollie Jackson, wasn’t as bad as the male narrator, Ryan Turner, who had a slow, halting pace and a robotic tone. I may revisit this series if I ever get Kindle Unlimited. I do not recommend this as an audiobook.

Endnotes: M/F sci-fi romance, futuristic time period, other planet setting, monster x human, kraken MMC, forced proximity, fish out of water, never been kissed, virgin heroine, 3rd-person dual POV, audiobook from Hoopla
Heat Index: 3/5
3 full, explicit sex scenes (my attention wavered a lot while listening to this so it’s possible I missed a sex scene or two). Sex acts include cunnilingus, clit stimulation with tentacles, and penetrative sex.
