Borrow My Heart was a funny and cute enjoyable book. The animals were adorable. I just wished there were more kittens.

A cute YA rom-com about a girl (Wren) who tries to control everything she can and a boy (Asher) she feels sorry for and tries to save from humiliating social media hijinks by pretending to be his date. It was sweet. I enjoyed the first half of it more than the second, because in these type of books the relationship always has to unravel before it can be knit back up. And that's just not so fun. But still a cute read. And fairly short!

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Children's for this advance review copy.

I have loved every Kasie West book I've read. She has a knack for writing believable scenarios, relatable characters, and witty and heartfelt dialogue. Borrow My Heart was no exception. I cried at the 3/4 mark. (Fear not! No dogs were harmed in the story!) I teared up because I knew exactly how she felt having an unreliable mother. I may be 46, but parental rejection makes it really hard to trust the other people you allow into your life. It is incredibly brave to let people in, knowing it gives them the opportunity to hurt you.  Here's hoping Wren - yes a fictional character - never feels that level of disappointment again.

Actual rating: 3.5 stars

I didn’t realize I had read some of Kasie West’s books before until I started this but I have to say while this is not my favorite of her books, I still liked it and enjoyed reading it.

I really liked the last several chapters and I feel like if I hadn’t I probably wouldn’t have rated the book as high.

I also liked that there were some parts that were predictable and some that weren’t. I definitely didn’t expect the plot twist that happened towards the end (is it even considered a plot twist? I’m gonna call it one).

I liked Asher a lot and Wren was great too. Wren has some character growth and Asher didn’t really seem to but he was still great.

Overall, this was a cute, short read and I enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
