This book is pretty short, which is different from the books I have been reading lately. But I was pleasantly surprised about how good it was.

Kayla, who just turned seventeen, is working as a guid in this national forest. She feels this odd attraction to Lucas, nineteen year old leader of the group. I found there relationship interesting because in the begging Kayla Is almost frightened of Lucas. But as she learns how much he cares for her, she gets comfortable around him. Kayla is kinda afraid to fall in love, due to unfaced demons. But she grows a lot threw the book without her personality changing.

I liked Lucas, he was a very good love interest. You get a slight love triangle in the middle. But trust me it ends pretty quickly, and it's not what the book is about.

All in all I really enjoyed this book, I stayed up till 12:30 am to finish it. If you like werewolf stories, I would recommend this book.

An incredibly entertaining and devourable 3 Star read.

I read this book back in my Twilight days when I was high off the binge of the quartet. I only read this first installment within this series and for years I never knew what the book was called or if my memory of it was a fever dream.

A couple years back I rediscovered it in a Half Price Books and it was a signed copy! Feeling the Covid19-Reading-Slump take me over, I decided to read it.

I binged it in one sitting.

This book wasn't neccesarilly bad, it just wasn't the gretest writing or the strongest plot, and for me, the romance moved way too fast to be real.

When I first heard Rachel Hawthorne was dabbling in the brook of the paranormal, I immediately became excited. I love Rachel Hawthorne for her romantic comedies, and was eager to see how she would channel her romance writing ways into the paranormal. And she did it masterfully. I considered Moonlight to have that "light read" aspect that I love in romantic comedies with the same impact, intensity, mysterious aspect of what makes a great paranormal read.

The romance and the paranormal blended so nicely in this book I can't even analyze them separately. Lucas was the bad boy authority figure, but something different about Lucas is that he wasn't a complete jerk. He was reserved and quiet, and always around that dark corner, but didn't fit the mean or rude stereotype of the bad boy.

All together, I love this book and really really can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series. I have to admit the plot line was a little bit predictable, but not to the point that the book got boring. The other books in the series focus on the other characters that were featured in the book which is something I am starting to love in series. The romance was perfect, the plot line was great, and the characters were fun. Overall, great paranormal book!

An excellent quick, easy read! This is both a new author and new series for me. As usual I went into it completely blind, without even reading the back of the book. Boy am I glad I grabbed this series off the library shelf!
I don't want to give anything away so just let me say I was engaged from the first chapter and couldn't put out down until I'd finished it! I'm SO glad I have the 2nd book in the series right here! I hate waiting! ;-)

What Goodreads.com says:
I see him and I know what this turmoil inside of me means: He's the one. My forever.

KAYLA is the nature lover, the all-American beauty who can't understand why she's so drawn to distant, brooding Lucas. Adopted as a young child, she has no way of knowing that she's inherited a terrifying-and thrilling-gene that will change her life forever.

LUCAS is dangerous, gorgeous ... and a werewolf. As leader of the Dark Guardians, shape-shifters who gather deep within the state park, he has sworn to protect his pack. But when Lucas finds his true soul mate, his love could put them all in harm's way.

As Lucas and Kayla struggle with their feelings for each other, a greater danger lurks: Humans have discovered the Dark Guardians and are planning their destruction. Kayla must choose between the life she knows and the love she feels certain is her destiny.

Probably more of a 3.5 rounded up.
I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. I've been going through a lot of these YA fantasy books that have cluttered up my shelves for years, unread, and some of them have been laughably awful. I assumed this would be about as bad, but I was interested in the story pretty early and for the last half of the book, I didn't want to put it down.
I get why people think of it as a Twilight-like story, but other than the fact that they're both about supernatural creatures, they're really not that similar character/plot wise. As someone who hasn't read a lot of "werewolf" stories, it was different and, as unrealistic as I find Kayla and Lucas' connection, I thought it was cute.

That was so amazing!!!! Wow!!! I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I am glad that I started this at a normal time because I would have likely stayed up all night to read this book!!!

What a great way to start a series! So excited to read the next few books!
