i cannot accurately sum up into words how feral i am for noa and ren. i want to shake kayleigh for the spiral she has sent me down, while also giving her a forehead kiss bc THANK YOU.

i am not one who typically goes for sad gorl reads, but i love me some angst and this one has is out the yinyang. i love OV and rejected mates stories, but rarely do I read a story depicting exactly what happens throughout the rejection- and it was absolutely (and deliciously) gut wrenching.

this was my first kayleigh king story, and i am gnawing at the bars of my enclosure to get my hands on the second part of this duet. if youre reading this- stop and go download it immediately, so we may discuss our mutual heartbreak and obsession.

huge s/o and thank you to kayleigh king & team for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read Primal, it was phenomenal!!!

I love a rejected mate omegaverse that turns into grovelling to win her back. Give me ten of these.
challenging dark emotional

I’ve adored every book I’ve ready by Kayleigh so far and Primal is no exception. I love omegaverse and shifter books and this was the first one I’ve read where you can actually feel the emotions of the characters in such a real way. I loved every heartbreaking moment of Primal and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. I expected some heartbreak going into this but it exceeded every expectation in the best way possible.

My first rejected mate omegaverse and I’m nervous to read any others tbh because this is so freaking phenomenal 😩 I was obsessed from the prologue and could not put the book down. I mean I’ve been up all night…it is not 6am and I have not slept because I truly could not stop reading. Kayleigh’s writing is SO add!ctive in the best possible way and as a spice girly, for an author to hold me in with a book that has only one spicy scene, yeah that’s a testament to how amazing this is. If you’re a fellow spicy book person, just know if you read this you won’t notice the lack of spice because the story is THAT GOOD!

The characters are loveable and complex, the plot kept me on my toes and interested, and the world building really made this universe so real for me. I honestly only have amazing things to say. So, I’ll just hush and scream at you to PLEASE READ THIS BOOK! 😍

My thoughts can be summed up with: this is emotional destruction of the most delicious kind. πŸ’”

~~

I made a note halfway through: When he's the one "who did this to her!" 🀬 My fuck this is emotional I've cried twice and I'm at 50%. I could fucking k ill Rennick.

I think my cry count ended up being 4 - I'm not a crier. The last one was Onyx Storm (IYKYK πŸ’›) and before that I can't remember - However I was sobbbing at points in this book.

Idk if that's a selling feature πŸ˜‚ but I devoured it.

Kayleigh King did a fantastic job portraying the gut wrenching evisceration of a fated mate rejecting the bond. Her writing was fantastic. The angst and tension was so palpable. The wolf tendencies 😍 The pining 😭 the SWEATSHIRT πŸ₯Ή the McNamaras πŸ–•πŸ» There is a little bit of spice (& we have a πŸ’¦πŸ‘– situation) but I know more is coming in the sequel. The cliffhanger has me ready to f*cking riot.

TLDR; Read if you love shifter romance with
- Omegaverse
- mutual pining
- slow burn
- element of mystery/suspense

This was the emotional buildup and I can't wait to get some answers and a HEA in Raw. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

This book is the best shifter romance I’ve ever read and I absolutely adored every second of it. It’s emotional, raw, heartbreaking, and heartwarming. The main characters are both so incredibly relatable and I honestly couldn’t pick a favorite if I had to. Rennick is Alpha of his pack and feels forced into an absolutely devastating choice for the good of his people. I struggled so much with wanting to hate him for the choice he makes but ultimately I understood why he did what he does. Then when he realizes his grievous error he and dives full force into groveling and fix it mode and it just made me love him even more. Noa is an absolute force on her own and I love her drive and passion to help others and to do what is right despite any and all costs. I know this was originally supposed to be a stand alone book but I am so glad Kayleigh made it a duet because the character depth and storyline development are absolutely perfectly paced. This book ends on a pretty brutal cliffy so I can not wait to see what happens next!

Cliffhanger

Right from the prologue and a few chapters in, you are hooked into the book.

We meet Noa, who is a latent shifter exiled from her pack or so she thinks. She goes back to her old pack in line with her motherβ€˜s last request for her burial and finds self claiming mate to the alpha, Rennick, who is betrothed to another. Their mate bond ignites. They are fated but does he pick her? No. Against his wolf’s decision. For the pack. To save his packs’ omegas.

This book is brutal. The rejection hurts. I went through the symptoms with her. The heartbreak. I was shedding tears through her pain. I lost my temper with the MMC. My heart was ripped apart by what Noah experienced. I understand the MMCβ€˜s point but at the expense of Noa it was too much to take in.

The cliffhanger!!!! We need book 2 soon. What is that ending!!!! The writing was beautiful. There is a whole plot in the book. It had me hooked word for word. Their bond, the thread omg. Take all my stars and tears.

The book is heartbreaking, and if this was a true life story, I swear there would be no forgiving the MMC at all. I truly think there is no redeeming the MMC for me. There’s nothing that the MMC will do that will ever put him in my good graces. I say that, but I will read book 2.

The tilapia/chuckie’s bride/sea hag parts were the funniest parts. The side characters were amazing. Loved it. Now give us book 2. I want to cry some more. Can’t wait to read it.

OH. MY. GOD.

This book. The yearning. The ANGST. I am un-freaking-well. This is one of the few omegaverse books I’ve read and I ate this baby up. I am absolutely OBSESSED with Noa and Rennick.
Noa is amazing. I love how strong and steady she is. She fights for others and does everything she can to care for them, even at her own expense. She has a cause she believes in and fights for it, even through her own pain and the rejection from Rennick. She doesn’t let what she’s going through stop her from taking care of the people who need her.
Rennick? Ugh. I love him, but I wanted to smack him upside the head. I know why he did what he did when he rejected Noa, but I still wanted to fight him 😩😩 he put our sweet baby through so much pain and hasn’t the poor girl been through enough? I’m glad he was finally able to pull his head out of his behind and start the process towards earning Noa’s trust and forgiveness.
BUT ALSO I need book two like ASAP???? How is Kayleigh going to end on that major cliffhanger. I am ✨distraught✨ but anyways 5/5 stars. Definitely recommend if you love angst and a soft, but badass FMC.

This book is absolutely everything.  I am not typically an Omegaverse / shifter reader, however this whole novel has me in a chokehold in a way I'm not sure I've ever been from a book before.
Kayleigh always provides us with some of the most beautiful writing, and Noa's journey is just that.  Beautiful.

Noa knows she doesn't belong in the world that was destined for her.  The goddess chose that long ago when her wolf never showed.  Latent, exiled and without a pack, Noa found a new purpose in life alongside her mother at an early age.  When her mother dies, it seems she may have left a multitude of secrets that may just upend everything Noa has come to known as they unravel.

Rennick.  Well, I don't even know what to say about this Alpha-asshole that I both love and mentally curse every five pages. This man has me weak in the knees, while also wanting to throw the book across the room because of his audacity.  It's all for purpose, and I get that, but Kayleigh really played with emotions here.  Rennick has the task of protecting his pack when Omega's start to go missing, however the choices he makes to save the souls of those surrounding him only hurt the one person he was destined for.

Plot twists, slow burn (that to be honest I didn't even realize because the plot was so enthralling), a strong female lead, real personalities and love/hate relationships with all of the characters had me flying through chapter after chapter.  I can't begin to count how many highlights, comments and curses I had throughout this one.

Kayleigh is going to break open your heart and serve it to your neighbor on a platter with this one.
I'll still recommend it until the end of time anyways knowing the damage it'll do to you because I have full faith she'll make it up to us with book two.
