What can I really say about Spaceborn Few?

I mean. Yeah, I loved it.

Might've taken a little to find the plot, but. Well, but even the journey there was worth it. A bit slow of a start, but worth it.

As with the other two Wayfarers books, Becky Chambers offers more of a journey than just a story. An experience. Hell, it almost felt real. I mean, there was the whole futuristic scifi element, aliens, spaceships and what. But otherwise.

Spaceborn Few reads like a real-life experience. Unlike the previous two entries, we're presented with a set of characters at their lowest, first and foremost. Jump forward a couple years and these same characters are just living life. Throughout A Spaceborn Few these characters mesh and overlap, in ways I both had and hadn't anticipated. With some we see their highs. With others, the lows. Occasionally both. But with all the POVs in this journey, we are given much more than that. We view their strengths, their weaknesses. Their hopes, their dreams—even if these dreams are ill-formed, or incomplete, or even a mystery to them as much as us—both the lives they've led and where they hope to go.

This was actually one of the things I loved most about Spaceborn Few. There've been times in my life where I knew what the future held, and I knew where I was headed. There were times I wasn't sure, but still had hope that everything would move along smoothly. And times when I had no fucking idea about anything.

While not every character runs this gauntlet over the course of the text, a few do go through varying degrees of it. I found it all very... human. Was one of the reasons I loved this experience so much.

So I say, to Becky Chambers, I hope to see more of you in the future. These stories, these journeys of yours... are light in a dark world, hope in a deep box. I owe you a hug, miss. Or, if you'd rather, a not-hug.

So I say, to anyone reading this and intrigued, go read the book. Not sure if I liked it more than Closed and Common Orbit, but why compare? Read 'em both.

So I say, to anyone that didn't care for my review (this set of ramblings), read Mogsy's. I loved it, she said everything I'm struggling to and more.

So I say... live your life, even if it's a struggle sometimes. Even if it's a trial. Even if you don't know where your future lies. Even if you're stumbling in the dark. The future may not hold what you like or expect, or expect to like. Your life may change tremendously over the course of as many pages. But... well. But.

Read her review, yeah?

It took me a while to get into the ensemble cast, but by the end I was crying. This is a slower, sweet weave of narrative threads that really got to me eventually.

Not my favorite of the series so far, but still an enjoyable read all the way through.
