The Longest December - ****
This reminded me of [b:The Girl on the Porch|43671627|The Girl on the Porch|Richard Chizmar|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1548119909l/43671627._SX50_.jpg|67945437]. Nice neighborhood, nice family, good marriage, crazy shit happens and the nice people are sucked in. Chizmar must have a great relationship with his wife, because he writes about a good marriage really truthfully. I recongnized the exchanges, the protectiveness, the slight secret keeping in an effort to protect a spouse. It was all done really well.

A Face in the Crowd - ****
I love that the MC is an old man, so the reader is lulled into thinking he must be sweet. He misses his wife, which is pitiable. BUT, the linger you read the more you find that he's really just an asshole. King and Nan drop unobtrusive hints to this right from the beginning, but they don't add up until well past the halfway mark. This was my favorite part of the story. The plot was just okay and pretty predictable, but that one device made the story so much better.
