Great first entry into this series. I am looking forward to the second book. Characters were good, plot was great. Overall, it had everything I want in a detective procedural novel.

Maybe it was my state of mind while reading, but I found this one needlessly long and a bit complicated to keep up with. Too many names and too many places.

I have already read/listened to several of the later books in the series, so this book is appearing more as a flashback. This review is for the abridged version, I can see the various elements of future books gradually unfold as this book progresses. This abridged version does not have some of the comedy relief provided in other books in this series. I am not sure if that is because this is the style I’d this first in series, or if (in the condensing process), these elements are removed. In either event, this book is both fast paced and dark.

Looking forward to book 2, likely unabridged if I can find it

This was a fairly rough read for me and I skipped a lot of parts where the details just didn't interest me. But I like the protagonist in this series so far so I will try Book 2. Charlie Parker has potential.

This book is DARK, but was amazing. Read it many many years ago. Loved them all, but since having kids can't read stuff this dark anymore, esp if it involves kids
