Me costó bastante entrar, pero después me ha costado soltar. Me ha gustado la forma de perfilar a los personajes poco a poco y la manera de hilar los dos casos. Seguiré con él.

This was (surprisingly) the first thriller I’ve ever read. It was my second book by Connolly, so I knew I would enjoy the writing style and thought I’d give it a go. I’m so glad that I did! I absolutely couldn’t put it down. I love the main character and it was one of the first times I didn’t have the mystery totally figured out before nearing the end. I will for sure be continuing on with this series. The best thing that I can say about this novel is that I don’t enjoy realistic horror too much as, quite honestly, it scares me, and yet I couldn’t stop thinking about this book. Highly recommended.

Aparentemente las novelas de Charlie Parker mejoran (¿como las de Harry Dresden?) pero sin duda ésta es la primera y no me ha terminado de gustar. En primer lugar la temática de asesino psicópata que mutila y crea «obras de arte» con sus cadáveres ha sido explorada hasta la saciedad en cine televisión y novelas de detectives. El FBI, la policía, algún mafioso, el héroe atormentado (esta vez es personal) y hasta la relación «personal» entre psicópata y policía seven terminan por aburrir y hay que trabajarselo mucho para destacar. El ambiente de pantano en Nueva Orleans, los toques sobrenaturales entre verdaderos y alucinados y otros detalles True Detective también estan muy manidos. Quizá cuando la novela se escribió no lo estaban pero el lector actual está resabiado. Se nota también que es una obra de autor primerizo por la acumulación brutal de tramas y personajes. Preso de una especie de Diógenes novelistico nos mete en la misma novela dos tramas que solo muy vagamente podemos ver como interconectadas y luego le añade todo el trasfondo posible para Charlie Parker y su variopinta cuadrilla (que casi da para otra
novela) y hace que algunas víctimas del asesino sean mafiosas para poder colar una guera por el control de los bajos fondos y tiroteos masivos.
Si lees las descripciones de la ropa y las armas (y las habitaciones y los bares...) en diagonal, entretiene; pero, aunque no descarto que caiga algún otro libro de la serie, pasará algún tiempo hasta que revisite a Bird y compañía. .
