Wow, I'm totally hooked on the series. I want to go visit Sanctuary and meet all the charterers there. I love them all! Everything that could go wrong does for poor Bailey, but for once her life has gotten little lighter when vampire Erick enters her life. Her whole world changes from then on. She soon learns that there are more paranormal beings then she ever imagined. When she reaches Sanctuary she finally feels like home, but she has to deal with an abusive ex, a djinn stalking her, and her growing feelings for Erick, but with her new friends she has the help she never dreamed of having. I can't wait to read the next book.

This was what I call a 'colonoscopy read', it was just engaging enough to keep me reading, but if I put it down, fell asleep, or skipped a few chapters ahead it wouldn't have mattered.
The MMC is a complete green flag, well, maybe except for the fangs. I don't plan to read anything else from this author. I found this to be very predictable.

Hyper Insta love.
Big TW on this book for abuse.

Pretty hot, interesting paranormal set-up - it did a good job making all the little coincidences line up so that the whole plot wasn't just precariously perched on a poorly fabricated alternate universe. Major kudos on that.
And I like the idea of the paranormal romance series that has a single plot/big bad BUT hops along different couples (the next in this series focuses on the two Dragon brothers and another lady).
Would read more for free or from the library.

What an amazing introduction to this new world that Ms Shannan has created in Sanctuary Texas filled with all sorts of paranormal creatures plus a bit of spice with a charming and odd array of paranormal creatures. The story was gripping from the first chapter and held me in its grasp as I struggled to put it down either to go to work or my other hum drum chores.
Bailey Ross, our amazing heroine, has suffered through loss of family, a malicious and vindictive ex-boyfriend and yet she is a woman that was relatable and determined. She is a woman that has been stuck in the middle of violence and refused to let that determine who she is. Not to mention a continued spark of hope refuses to be extinguished from her soul even with everything she has experienced or witnessed. To say she is a character that I can easily understand and connect with helped this stellar book to shine even more in my eyes.
And just wait until you are introduced to the amazing man that is her match in Erick Thorson. This vampire oozes sex appeal with a gentleman's sense of courtesy and old world charm. To sum up in one word, Yummy! There are so many layers to Erick that even after reading the 298 pages you still feel that there are depths that could easily be discovered at a later date. Might I even suggest a novellette about their life in the future, Ms Shannan! *Hint Hint* The fact that he is actually a Viking that was turned into a Vampire just makes this such an interesting twist and kept me on my virtual toes as I read this book wondering if I was going to discover other novel twists that I wasn't anticipating, which you will.
The story building and the other characters that you will meet along this journey through Sanctuary Texas are some of the most interesting and quirky characters I have come across in a while in this genre. Not to mention the fact that the story basically ends up spending more than 90% of the book in Texas with paranormals I would never have thought to place in a location that is known for its heat, cattle, Battle of the Alamo and oil. When you place these characters here it makes for some interesting juxtapositions which I found highly entertaining.
And how could I have forgotten the romance? Well...it is so good you are going to need to pick this one up as soon as possible. The excerpt I have inserted into this post is the mildest that Ms Shannan provided to me and it it still hot enough to require a glass of wine or iced tea always be available while you consume this book.
Final Thoughts, If you haven't figured it out yet, this book is headed directly to my Best of 2014 list. You need to do yourself a favor and go buy this book. I look forward to seeing what else the characters from Sanctuary Texas will get up to as the series progresses.
A copy of My Viking Vampire was provided to me by the author and nothing else was exchanged for my honest review.

This book has an interesting premise and like zero follow-through. I mean, you know what you're getting into when you pick up a book in this genre with this kind of title, but still, man. Let your editor out of the dungeon. :P
Good
I enjoyed listening to this book. First time reading this author. Erik is tracking a djinn who happens to corner the most beautiful woman Erik has seen in millennia. Bailey is human and on the run from her ex. Erik offers to bring her to Sanctuary, Texas. A place where others or supernatural live. The two have a attraction but she doesn't know how to trust anyone. Especially a vampire. Something in Erik's eyes has her falling for the viking. Can she trust him to protector her from the djinn and het ex husband?
Since I listened to the audio for 90% of the book. Only issue I had was the accent. He didn't sound Viking or from the Norse. He sound more french. However, despite that the story was good and very enjoyable. I hope to read more of these books.

The book was fine. However, I don’t think the author handled Bailey’s trauma appropriately at all. She actually blew it off in a matter of DAYS in order to get to her real goal - vampire BDSM. Bailey was abused by her ex mentally and sexually for at least a year. Then she goes to Sanctuary, Texas with this random vampire she’s attracted to. She has paralyzing fear of things like whips and chains because of what her ex did to her. So logically, let’s put the Oracle she is REQUIRED to see in the middle of a BDSM sex club and have her walk in on someone being whipped causing her to have a panic attack.
Next day, after having introduced her vampire mate as someone who doesn’t care about that particular kink genre, let’s switch it up and make him a super dom who just happens to be willing to give it up for an eternity with her. Oh wait, just kidding, two days later he wants to play with her in the literal kink castle to “help her overcome her fears”.
I don’t understand bringing in an abusive ex PTSD plot point if you’re just going to poof it out of existence. Could you really not write one book where the character truly didn’t care about BDSM when he is supposed to be her perfect mate? You’re telling me every person in this town just loves to frequent the sex castle? Erik also had his own bag of tricks in his home so why exactly did he have to bring her there?
This book would have been much better served without the PTSD, Erik not being a dom, or at the very least Erik not being into whips and restraints. He puts her in situations he promised he never would and acts like it is a courtesy. The next book is supposed to be about the brothers who own and run the castle anyway so you could still have your kink if that’s the only reason you’re writing/reading these stories.
