Interesting beginning

The webs this author weaves without really giving the whole story is unique, takes several books to get to the meaning but entertaining.

Short read. Stuff happened but didn’t happen? Lots of questions that I think I’ll read more from this series. It’s supposed to get darker as the series progresses?

***** Stars for Lawless Kingdom Book one of Reign & Ruin

Natalies obsession with little red riding hood has flowed over into her very first book under the bully genre and girl did not disappoint. So many emotions had me sucked in wanting to know what was going to happen next. I am so excited to see what my favourite author has in store for these characters next now that I am committed and invested in this series. I absolutely loved that Natalies writing and story progression stayed true to her. Sometimes when an author tries their hand at a new genre it takes a bit to feel genuine, but not this time I was hooked from the first sentence. This couple was made to Reign & Ruin.

really liked this, but it felt like half a book - once things picked up, the book ended. can’t wait to pick up book 2!

Love.

I bought book 1 and 2 because I'm on the street team and have book 3. So I need to catch up ! I really am loving getting to know Judas. I like him so far. Definitely intrigued with the parents hidden double life. Alot to find out. I need to dive in to book two NOW so I'm sorry for this shirt review. Usually Natalie Bennett books are pretty dark. This one is dark but usually there is alot of darkness. They're teenagers. Young adults. Possessiveness. Lust. Secrets. Alot for secrets. Bring it on. So far I'm appreciating book one!

I can’t help but wonder what readers stumbling onto this book potentially expecting a standard bully romance must think of it. Especially if this is their first brush with Natalie Bennett. I’ve been waiting *forever* for this series to be finished.

If you’ve never read this author before it’s actually a pretty decent way to stick your toes into the water. It’s dark but doesn’t hold a candle to her other books. Natalie Bennett has a gift for writing disturbingly dark romances that probably barely qualify as romance. Still as batshit crazy as her antiheroes are ultimately they are obsessively devoted to their heroines, even if they are willing to mindfuck her along the way.

As with any Natalie Bennett book existing as part of a series you get almost no answers. The darkness surrounding our characters is cryptic and vague. Inevitably any answers given are replaced quickly with more questions. Some things won’t make sense, some things will be downright contradictory to what we’ve already been told. It’s part of the Natalie Bennett charm. It’s a much more enjoyable experience if you just roll with it and not get hung up on the rest

Judas is pretty mild in the alphahole realm so far. He’s definitely got that bossy thing down but he’s pretty gentle with Rhia. It’s clear he’s had no issue being a fuckboy while waiting to claim Rhia which is honestly obnoxious. It’s actually the sole reason I cut a star from this. I want the H to be all in for h not getting his dick wet in any other hole while biding his time. Thus far in the story we don’t actually have a reason given for the delay so it’s doubly annoying.

Rhia isn’t a wilting daisy. She’s tough but thankfully not in an obnoxious way. She’s quite clueless and not nearly as annoyed by that as she should be but that’s pretty typical for the occasionally innocent-ish heroines this author sometimes writes.

Slow burn, the book actually opens in the midst of a sex scene but we have no context for it so I’m not counting it in my burn calculator. The H/h don’t bump uglies again in the book til 88%.

The h is a virgin in opening chapter sex scene
H is a manwhore
Mild OW/OM drama
No scenes with others
No cheating
No separation
Cliffhanger, series is complete though, as far as I know.

Safety - aside from murder, violence and unanswered questions this is safe. The h has a boyfriend in the beginning but that relationship ends immediately. The OW drama is hoes being jealous of h. She’s not concerned. I don’t think either H/h was celibate after their initial tryst but she had no idea who he was. He knew exactly who she was and continued to fuck OW while “waiting” for h
