I read the first five books in the series but the sixth (this one) wasn’t out when I finished. I was bummed because I was ready for more but I had to wait. And then I got involved in other series and forgot about looking for book six. Then just recently I saw this series recommended and realized I was probably behind now. And so here we are.

It took a bit to get backup to speed and remember some of what came before  and why it was relevant here. But once I felt back in the groove I totally enjoyed this book. The whole proposal fiascos storyline is amusing, sad, and charming all at the same time. It says so much about Doyle’s love and concern for Valor. But it’s funny how Torin has a better grasp on the situation. When it finally occurs it is worth the wait.

I love the relationship between Ruiz and Valor and how that has progressed. It plays a key role here.

The crime storyline is a bit weird. Doyle and Torin get sent to a town four hours away because a dead body that has turned up in an investigation was a member of that town’s police department and the mayor has decided they can’t investigate now due to conflict of interest. Doyle and Torin are complete strangers to the area and have almost no information to go on. As they gradually develop some clues and start to float some theories even more possibilities pop up. And no one in the town police department is glad they are there. It’s an interesting plot device and isolating them like this contributes to both storylines.

There are several possible red herrings and while we see connections getting made and almost think we are at a solution new information pops up again. The crisis moment is one of those TSTL moments that had me screaming at the book…SOOOO irritating.

The ending is weirdly sweet and I look forward to the next book. I can just imagine and relish the idea of Valor being a groomzilla!

In the last book, I had a feeling that Quaid and Aslan's relationship would change dramatically. And I was right! Or, it would, if Aslan wasn't such a disaster.

The more he focuses on creating a picture perfect proposal, the more the pressure gets to him, and the more he fumbles. Quaid suspects there's something going on, and his mind begins to run rampant with all kinds of scenarios - all of them bad.

And things are only made worse when Aslan and his partner in homicide, Torin, get called out of town on a doozy of a case.

Working in an unfamiliar environment, with hostile officers, is more than enough to throw anyone off their game. And with an active serial killer, a timeline spanning nearly four decades, if not more, the pressure is really on.

The twists and turns go in so many different directions, it's hard to know which direction to go in, or focus on. The more Aslan and Quaid make progress, the more convoluted the case becomes. It's more than enough to send anyone's mind spinning. And as the case pieces itself together bit by bit, it really felt like the solution was staring them in the face the entire time.

In the end, Aslan and Torin get to go home - and Quaid gets to plan a wedding with his new fiancé. I'm already imagining the kind of pressure Quaid is going to put on himself to make the wedding absolutely perfect.

Humor, Mystery, Spice, Intimacy.....Its all here and then some!

I am sooooo sad I am closing in on the end of this series but I am even more excited for this HEA these two men deserve!

Az being sent to work on a case was not what these two needed. He was in the middle of trying to be sneaky and surprise Quaid but it kept going wrong. I feel for Quaid and his inability to trust easily. Az is one of my favorite characters ever written. He knows just what to do and how to handle things to make sure Quaid knows he is forever in this.

Cant wait for book 7!
