Decent ghost story/horror. It was a pretty good reveal, although uneven at times.

A quick, spooky read. The twist doesn't seem like it would be terribly sustainable, and there are definitely some plot holes, but neither took away from my enjoyment of the story. The illustrations added in was a great touch.

Bought this last fall and it’s been gathering dust so figured I’d crack Jason’s back open. So far, so good. Quinn is giving me Emma Stone in Maniac with the research study. Will update this as I move along!

I felt so differently about the first and second half of this book so I can't decide on a rating and the way the ending left me feeling, I don't want to bother anyways.
The first half of this book was great! I got sucked into the story very quickly and it was pretty chilling to slowly realize just how vulnerable a position this main character was in. I was pretty interested in how this would all end up unfolding even though I had to suspend my disbelief about some of the character responses to events (or lack thereof) but then the twist happened and it became super clear that the author had an agenda. The twist, the falling action and portions of the build up tying into that ending (in hindsight) felt like they relied on bad stereotypes and arguments commonly used to incite hurtful or hateful responses.

this book is VERY cliche in the way the horror story goes… kid drawing a creepy ghost lady, haunted house, spooky small town legends etc.
however, i liked the main character, she was relatable. it lulled a lot in the start & i feel like all the real action happened in the final 10% of the book, i wish the resolution got more time and explanation (so much time was spent on mundane babysitting days before we got any real spooky stuff) but overall i enjoyed this one and i thought it was well written!!
