DNF at Chapter 14. Nothing wrong with it, just ready to move on.

A Night to Surrender is the first book in the Spindle Cove series. This was my first Tessa Dare book, even though the author and this series has been on my TBR for a while. After picking up one of the later books in the series at my library book sale I finally decided to start the series.

I enjoyed this book so much. I loved Spindle Cove and all the side characters that were introduced. Bram and Susanna were so lovable with Bram slightly frustrating at times. They’re both stubborn people and want things their way but they’re also vulnerable with hard outer shells. They both find a compromise in the end but at one point each gave an ultimatum that I didn’t think was very fair to either of them.

There are four encounters, that seem to get steamier each time. They were sweet and full of passion.

CW: references to medical trauma and irritating 19th century medical practices.

Starting to think that despite the on-point reviews from readers I trust, Tessa Dare might just not be the right romance writer for me

Tessa Dare is a very intelligent romance writer who has fantastic heroines who can really hold their own. Not only that, but the conflicts in the stories are real. Susanna Finch lives in the town of Spindle Cove, and because of her awful experiences as a young adult after her mother died, she has made Spindle Cove a kind of sanctuary for other young women who don't quite fit into society's idea of a young woman. Bram comes to town to see Susanna's father, the inventor of the famous Finch pistol. Bram wants Susanna's father to put in a good word with the War Ministry that he is fully recovered from his knee injury and ready to go back into service. Of course, once Susanna and Bram meet, that is destined not to happen.

Love me a good regency romance with a bit of steam!
