“Every part of me seems to always reach for you.“

The pining, the longing, the yearning?! Absolutely remarkable. This was under 300 pages, and it was such a well structured story and romance. Mina & Simon definitely had insta-love but I was absolutely enthralled by it?? It’s one of my least favorite tropes and I ate it up this time haha. Simon also read as neurodivergently coded in some way, at least that’s how I interpreted his character. I loved him so, so much.

Overall this was an incredibly sweet romance, he gives her a piggy back ride and buys her a shit ton of ice cream, LIKE COME ON. But make no mistake, Stacy doesn’t neglect the plot, it’s equally as interesting.

"God, you make a man forget his name," he said against her mouth.

Now we love bodice rippers for the smut, but I especially love when said smut is full of vulnerabilities and raw emotions, and this smut was!! Truly beautifully done.

He took her chin in his hand. “Tell me why you look so afraid.”
“For you will slay the cause of it?”
“Yes.”

I really like Stacy Reid’s work, and this book was no exception. I loved these characters, especially Mina. I felt the resolution was rushed; I wanted to enjoy more of their relationship once the obstacles were cleared. Having said that, I liked this book a lot and am looking forward to the next one from Ms Reid.

I really enjoyed this but it felt a little slow in the middle. A little tedious and I wish
Mina would have gotten a divorce rather than have been a widow the whole time.
Ultimately everything wrapped up nicely and I enjoyed that Mina and Simon were equals but I also didn’t love that Simon seemed to look down on all other women as frivolous.

5 Stars!!!

This was one of the most progressive/political historicals I have read to date, and surprisingly I loved it! This was also my first Stacy Reid book and surely not my last!

The story starts off with the heroine and her brother in financial despair. They have little to no staff left after their father passed away and the heroine's shameful elopement. The heroine's brother tries to earn money during a card game one evening, one stupid decision after another and he ends up declaring a duel with the hero.

The hero and heroine meet when the heroine shows up in her brothers place for the duel. Their connection is instant and she is soon hired to be his secretary. Their affair starts shortly after and their passion is carried throughout the book. Both characters have such a beautiful development, both individually and together.

I received a copy of this book as an ARC and reviewed it voluntarily.

I have enjoyed Stacy Reid's books in the past so I'm not sure if her writing style was different or if my reading tastes changed but A Matter of Temptation didn't feel as good as her past books. I liked the characters just fine, for the most part Mina was a strong lead, and I loved the banter between her and Simon, but the story felt a bit uneven. There were plot points that felt important but didn't go anywhere and the ending felt a little rushed. That being said, I still read it in 2 days, enjoyed it, and will keep reading her books.
