if you plan to read this book because you're attracted to mystery murder, i am sorry to break it to you but this is not the type of content you're looking for. it is just a silly fun book you can read when you're in the same mood as when watching some funny sitcom. i knew exactly what i was getting into (in fact this is the kind of book i've been wanting to read since a couple months ago) so i think that's why, unlike other reviewers, i actually had a good time reading the book.

maybe one of the only things i disliked was... nathan.
yeah, he is adorable and he's meddy's soulmate and future husband
but i was expecting to see some kind of flaw coming from him. i can excuse some unbelievable details in the plot because that's the fun of it, but he was a little bit too perfect and that made his personality lowkey bland.

of course one can say that the aunties themselves don't have that much of a development neither
yet, from my point of view, i think that the whole situation of the corpse and meddy's declaration by the end, helps them to explicitly appreciate each other
overall, their connection and their funny lines is what made me love the book.

as i said, it seems to me that this is not a book one should overanalyze so i did not stop to ponder on her character. but i have to say that i relate to her a little. i am also a daughter of immigrants who has never left the nest, so i know i am going to have a hard time doing so when the time comes. that's why i can truly emphathize with her guilt of leaving her family behind.

this is, to put it briefly, this is a comedic story about the importance of family. i think anyone who wants to read it can truly have a good time doing so, as long as they're aware of that.

The aunties praise Meddy for being such a good daughter and for being so polite and smart while they're literally hiding a dead body. Then they criticize and get mad at her - not for murder or anything - but because she touched the dead body. What a fantastic family.

Like most of the readers, I didn't know what I was going into when I read the book except that it's about murder and I found it funny that a book about murder has such a colorful cover.

I was kinda surprised when I found out how chaotic the aunties are. They're real... I wouldn't call it psycho, but they treat a dead body like it's nothing. If I were Meddy, I'd just throw the body in the woods. Some of the things they do just didn't really makes sense to me nevertheless it makes me laugh. But the romance wasn't my favorite part of the book, the second chance romance was so... instant. Meddy could've given her and Nathan some more time to get back together again.

I love that this book is so rich in the Chinese-Indonesian culture and as an Indonesian myself, I can tell how relatable they are. It's giving Crazy Rich Asians family dynamic and we love it. Though I think non-Indo readers might find it kinda hard to understand because they don't make the Indonesian/Chinese words italic.

Hilarious the whole way through. More far fetched than I’m used to but such a fun read. Loved it

ahhhh i loved this book it was so much fun! it doesn't take itself too seriously but it's not really corny or cringey. it's the romantic comedy wacky murder mystery that people are nostalgic over these days, with the over-the-top family dynamics from the 90s/early 2000s, except with an asian american spin. i thought it was so fun; i read 70% of it in one day because i was so excited to read the next plot twist/new conundrum. my only qualm is that the maureen storyline is a biiiiit corny, but not enough to crucify the book over. i'm really glad it's a series and it's becoming a netflix movie because it played out in my head like a movie. also i will be very sensitive to who they cast as Nathan bc i'm in love w him!!!

This book was stressful, anxiety-inducing, funny, and chaotic all at once. Every time I thought I knew how this story would end - it took a funny or ridiculous turn.

A quick, fun read. Not my usual type of book but I enjoyed it overall. Nathan and Meddie are cute and I  enjoyed getting to learn their story - I honestly would have loved to learn more.

Looking forward to reading the next book!
