This book never fails to be incredible. I adore the poignant commentary on the terrors of authoritarian government, and i loved this book just as much as an adult as i did when i read it when i was younger. some things hit harder as an adult when you aren’t near their ages, and the fact they are literal children just doing their best is even more heartbreaking.
Also it is such a good audiobook telling!

Well, this was just as good on a second reading so many years later. I'm quite surprised because I feared I wouldn't enjoy it quite as much now I was more grown-up, but I just couldn't stop listening to it. The audiobook narrated by Tatiana Maslany is amazing, by the way: she did such a fantastic job bringing Katniss to life! Her singing in *that* scene actually made me tear up.

There was a lot more nuance to the characters and the worldbuilding than I remembered, and the social justice element was really evident - maybe even a bit too much at times but hey, it still works considering it's a YA novel. I'll continue my re-read with the next book in the series, which I'm even more curious to revisit since I remember very little about it.

I often think about what was going on in Suzanne Collins head, and what it takes to imagine writing a book about a world where children are forced to fight each other to the death.

I also question my inner compass, for enjoying reading every minute of it.
However, with how corrupt everything is in today's society, sometimes I think it may not be too far-fetched.

I read through this book very quickly and was entertained throughout. I couldn't wait to pick up the remaining books in the series to continue reading.

Rereading this series to read the newest book (2020) only to announce they’re adding a fourth in 2025! I forget how much i enjoyed this series as a kid, and it still holds up today. I still critique the use of the love triangle, but i understand why it’s included. Overall still a great, enjoyable read.
