In the ruins of a place once known as North America, lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts.
The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games.
But Katniss has been close to dead before, and without really meaning to, she becomes a contender in something that grows to be bigger than she ever imagined.
But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weight survival against humanity and life against love

This book will always be one of my all time favorites, and this series is truly a classic. I love everything about it, from the world building, to the characters, to the plot, to the writing style.
This is one of the books that simply captures your full attention and just pulls you in and makes you feel like you are right in the book, experiencing what is going on.
I can't recommend this book enough, especially to people who love dystopian books and movies, or even people new to reading!
The fast and captivating pace of this book will definitely keep you intrigued and wanting to keep reading.

Wow, this was fantastic! A reviewer on Amazon called this the "quintessential futuristic gladiator book for kids" and it's hard to beat that description. Really gripping. I especially like how everything - every thought and image and utterance - is continually cast into doubt, so the main character must constantly re-evaluate and question everyone's motives, including her own.
