Your favorite drama queens of the English moors, this time with dragons. White has put together a wildly entertaining adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice," her original elements adding a fun new layer to familiar characters. This book stands on its own as an enjoyable fantasy read even for the non-Austenians out here with action, adventure, angst, and great world building.

Overall an enjoyable read, although it kind of lost me at the last 10% of the book— I just grew bored. I thought the fantasy world was interesting, but could have been better; although, the way, the author integrated the fantasy meshed well with that regency tone of the novel. The writing was good, and Aliza was a good main character and narrator. It’s overall a solid pride and prejudice retelling. However, interesting enough for me to continue with the series.

LITERALLY pride and prejudice but make it fantasy. Absolutely enjoyable.

I love Pride and Prejudice and own many different retellings of it. This one definitely does not read like Austen’s prose, but the characters and towns are undeniably familiar. Honestly, it reads like fan-fiction. That said, the story is really damn clever. I had a bit of a “really....?” moment during the death of the big baddie and was disappointed at how “easy” it was (why didn’t anyone think of this strategy before the battle had raged for days and lives were lost, you know?) but the story and premise in general were clever. And unlike P&P, there’s more to their story. I have the 2nd one on hold at the library and I’m interested in seeing what happens with the characters and world we have been introduced to.

I just could not get into this at all. I tried but was to slow for me. Had to give up
