emotional hopeful inspiring reflective sad medium-paced

i really enjoyed this book! it was so sweet and comforting and i’m happy i read it when i did. i hope it can help me get out of the funk i’ve been feeling. highly recommend people read it. It does involve death and grief but in a good way and i don’t think it was too heavy but wanted to give the warning.

Clover has always had an interesting view of death, from watching her kindergarten teacher die to her current job of death doula. She was raised by her grandfather, after her parents died in an accident in China. Clover travelled the world studying death, but came back to NYC after her grandfather died. Now, she lives in his apartment with her pets. She doesn’t have much of a social life, only going to death cafes. She meets Sebastian at one of the death cafes. Sebastian is struggling with his dying grandmother, Claudia. He hires Clover to be Claudia’s death doula. This book was such a learning experience for me as I knew nothing about death doulas or death cafes, which apparently do exist. Although this book is sad at times, it’s meant to celebrate life. “The only way to have a good death is to lead a good life.”
