I think if I had read this at a different time, I would have liked it more. It’s an interesting concept, a death doula who helps people walk through death. But it’s also a little hard to read because that’s the content - grief. The end was hopeful, and had some sweet surprises, which helped me make it through and finish it. So, I don’t know if it’s one I would recommend. It took me four months to finish…

This book was beautiful. It explores ideas about death and dying in a very loving way. The main character goes through a tremendous growth process in a way that is very believable.

really liked a fiction book that addresses death so gently yet head-on. only 3 stars bc the writing was just ok, a tad preachy. but conceptually I was down. reminded me of eleanor oliphant is completely fine.

Lovely book with a heartwarming story, was just too predictable for me.

I appreciated the message and the unique premise but the main character just really annoyed me and the dialogue wasn't at all believable, in my opinion!

This book hits of the feelings of grief so well while also acknowledging the importance of living after grief. I lost my dad unexpectedly almost a year ago and this book was exactly what I needed. Here are the quotes the resonated with me.

“The secret to a beautiful death is living a beautiful life.”

“ Your grief is yours to process in your own time, in whatever way works for you. No one can tell you how to do that. But, if you do ever feel like talking about it, I’d be happy to listen.”

“It felt callous to be expected to resume life as normal six months are losing someone whose existence had been so indelibly intertwined with yours.”

If you are experiencing grief or complex emotions this is a beautiful read.
