I was hesitant at first with the book. I was required to read this book for a book report at school and I initially picked this to write about among the book selections because the author was Paul Coelho.
I was at first skeptic with the first few chapters and was a bit bored with all the religious references but soon enough I couldn't put down the book and was pretty much hooked on it. I enjoyed Elijah's character and indecisions as he understands more about himself and his faith throughout the course of the book. I enjoyed most of the characters even if they barely had anything noteworthy about them.
To conclude this short and random review, I quite enjoyed the book. The religious references aren't exactly my cup of tea but it was a nice and easy ride for a story for my book report.

I wanted to like this book. I read and loved The Alchemist, and some of the things I loved about that book can be found here - the beautiful language, the nuggets of wisdom, the spiritual themes. But everything that was good about that book became something wholly different in this one. The beautiful language and nuggets of wisdom became a plotless piece of proselytization (say that five times fast). The spiritual themes became a mess of religious intolerance. In the end, a book designed to make us more hopeful left me feeling discomforted and, often, angry.

I tried this to improve my reading skills in russian. Never thought that it would be so tricky, but most important part is taht I did it. ^_^
Excellent book about following the plan Gd has laid out for us even when we do not know why it is asked of us. Also not taking what you want out of life for granted because you don't know the day or the hour that it can all change. Very inspirational and redemptive.
Nuff said, I cannot have any more words about this book. Anyway, you can see how boring this book is by reading my review about it here
