At first I thought I would like it, since the author's sister wrote Jane Eyre but when I started reading it I just hated it so much that it took me months to read it... It was so slow and agonizing but now that I'm done with it I love it..

I enjoyed this - it’s atmospheric, emotional, dramatic - HOWEVER, it gets a bit repetitive

I had always heard of this book as a romantic novel. I didn’t find anything about it to be romantic. With that being said, the point of the book is probably to deconstruct romance. I found the book unpleasant to read. The characters were awful to each other. It is certainly well written.
