Started reading 5/29/12. Switched to audiobook 7/10/12 (read by Burn Gorman). Finished 7/12/12. The audiobook was abridged, so it left out all of the angsty relationship stuff between Gwen and Rhys, which was why I wasn't enjoying the book---because the show had already progressed their relationship FAR past the point it's at in this book. As far as the mystery/alien plot---predictable.

I found this to be the best-written of the Torchwood books so far. The author really captured the characters well and had a great level of sarcastic humor. It worked nicely for a Torchwood fix between shows.

This story continued to uphold a good tone and understanding of characters like my previous Torchwood read did. The pacing has a more distinct up and down between moments of action but that's because this story spends more time exploring certain characters and how the plot affects them. There's some really great ideas moral debate and horror here, and the conclusion feels more unique & satisfying than usual. The only major issue I had was with the side-plot that some of the characters were neglected to, and which ultimately felt a bit irrelevant to the rest of the story.
