I really enjoyed this story. I have to say that my opinion of the book is likely influenced by the TV show (which I watched first). I really love the worldbuilding, and the premise is, as much as it has been told many times, very compelling, and with much room for reflection, which I think the book excels at.

In comparison to the show, I think the characters are not quite as fleshed out as they should be, especially when it comes to the characters in Mechanical, and Billings. I constantly realized the show did a fantastic job in elevating the stakes and getting more "juice" out of the plot points. I found that Bernard was too flat in the book, and the romance plot lines felt quite unnecesary. But overall, the story is so good, that I can live with it.

This might be one of the most overrated books I've ever read. It started off promising but I'm actually kind of impressed at how much the author fumbled the ending. Stephen King wishes he could write endings this bad.
