Originally DNF’d a year ago as I struggled to get engaged with the writing style, even after having seen the show. Was feeling in the mood recently and glad I picked it back up- it became a very fast read. I’m glad I saw the show first as there were changes from the text in the show (as is typical) that I was able to enjoy in the show but nothing that was, to me, jarringly different or off. Interesting world that left room for more but some elements felt rushed or not fully explained.

A fantastic take on the idea of post-apocalyptic futures. Juliette is a beautifully written character with strong ideals and a good head on her shoulders. Her story is one that I found incredibly hard to put down.

The prose is pretty straight forward and basic, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The novelty of the story premise was probably harder hitting back when the story was originally published back in 2012. Will be curious to see if the sequel books will be able to expand on the world established in this first book in a satisfying way. Character work ranged from solid to slightly above average.

Everything in this book, whilst not reaching the levels of extraordinary, was competently written and executed. It's also an easy read, so definitely would recommend this book to those looking for a relatively easy Sci Fi read that deals with some heavy and dark circumstances, but does so in a way that isn't overly complicated or morbid.
