4.5 stars. This was so good! I honestly wasn't sure how into this I'd be because the types of romances Tessa Dare writes are often just not for me (just in terms of personal preferences, not that they're poorly written or anything). My usual issue with her books is that the physical part of the romance comes too fast (I just prefer that characters in historical romances don't start making out the first or second time they meet), but here it actually worked because they were married so the physical stuff made sense, but the love/romance part came slower. Both of their hang-ups made sense, and I loved how they slowly got to know one another and came to respect and then love one another, and their banter was a lot of fun. And I loved the cat and all the servants conspiring to get them together, and the friends Emma made and how they teased Ash when they met him. This was all just lovely!

If I had a bookshelf for this, it would have to include all these: Sexy. Sensuous. Flirty. Charming main couple. Empowering. A page turner. Read it in one sitting. Up late reading.

Super steamy but with a lovely plotline! Our MCs are both damaged -physically and mentally- but they help each other see their worth in the end. I really loved this story and will likely come back to it as a comfort read.

This was really fun. Fun main characters, fun secondary characters, lots of humor. Looking forward to reading more like this.

The audiobook is amazing. Tessa Dare's sardonic and witty dialogue and her characters' internal thoughts delivered by narrator Mary Jane Wells with perfect timing and tone was wonderful.

This was so good! I've never been a huge historical romance girl but this book has changed my mind. It wasn't perfect and a lot of parts were unrealistic or crazy, but I didn't pick this up for realism so it still ended up being great. I think part of that weirdness stemmed from the fact that this book is told in third-person. I like first-person, especially in romance, because you really get to feel the emotions and angst directly. You still get that tension here, it just feels a little distant that it could have been, but it didn't impact my reading experience too much. The plot was really interesting and I loved the chemistry between Emma and Ahs, I'm also a sucker for the broken bad boy trope. The tension and attraction were also present from the very start to the very end, which I love because a lot of authors lose it as soon as the couple gets together. A really fun read and I'm excited to read more of this series.
