Out of all the Bad Chicago Bosses series, this was by far my favorite. Something about the words and imagery made it hard to put down. But what really did it was more so the redemption for Roland since he’s been a thorn-in-the-side jag-off throughout the series.

GOOD LORD!!!! This (in my opinion) is Nicole Snow's best book so far, and I've read almost all her books. From the beginning this story just pulls you in. Roland is such a tortured soul and it just grips at your heart strings. Callie has such a fiery spirit but with awkward moments and it brings these funny moments into the story. But mostly this book will have you reaching for the kleenex but by the end have you smiling from ear to ear. We also have a cameo from our favorite (or not depending on who you are) pop star Milah, and I personally hope she gets her own story and HEA some day.

Callie is moving to Chicago from New Orleans, excited to start her new job as editor of a music magazine. She encounters an insufferable man at the airport and dresses him down in front of his shocked underlings but gets little satisfaction from it. The tabloid press ruined her father’s life and whoever that man is, he’s one of them. Minutes into her first day, the company’s new owner comes in to introduce himself and it’s the gorgeous yet disgusting man from the airport, because of course it is. Not only is he the boss at her dream job, but he has a special assignment for Callie that makes her feel like a bottom-feeding tabloid hack.

Roland realizes his empire isn’t built on ethical journalism, but he’s okay with that because he has a deeper purpose. Everything he’s done is for a very good reason and he doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him or his methods. Until he meets Callie. They have a lust-hate relationship that drives them both so crazy, they decide to give in for just one night. Except one night isn’t enough and it turns into many more. He’s wrestling with his secret and determined to get revenge on the man who turned his life upside down so Callie’s a distraction he doesn’t need but he can’t stay away.

Curveballs come at them from all sides so nothing is easy and things get between them, but they get a hard-earned HEA eventually. I love these characters and the details of the subplot for Roland’s revenge. Grumpy-sunshine tropes aren’t a favorite but the characters are fantastic and really pulled me in from the beginning. The slow-burn turns the tension up past high and this story is hilarious despite some heavy subject matter sprinkled throughout. This is a fun story I’ll definitely read again.

I DNFed at 36%. This book is way too slow and long. The characters repeat their feelings in long and useless internal monologues over and over again and it's SO BORING.
When I stopped, I still felt like there had been little to no development in their relationship or the story.

I enjoyed reading this up until about half way through. I love the grumpy/sunshine trope with spicy scenes & I think Nicole did a decent job with that. The only things I didn’t like was how over the top it was how much Callie hated Roland & the cheesy drama the book revolved around. It was an ok book but would not read it again. I ended up returning it.

Higher than a 3, but lower than a 4. I finished it, didn’t hate it. The slow burn was good and slow, and when it burned it really burned. Some of the dialogue was cringy, but easy to get past.

I actually kind of like this one. Ronald wasn't your typical hero in romance novels like, yeah, he was grumpy, rich and had a huge ego which is kind of a typical thing these days but he had a bit more personality compared to a lot of other hero's in romance I've read in the past. He actually had things that made him more human I guess like when he would slap his face to keep himself awake or got annoyed at himself. Those little details that doesn't seem exist in other novels. He was an interesting about actually. I kind of like the way was written. I think the author did quite a good job in that regard.

I also really liked Calli. She was cute but was prone to overtaking but aren't they all? She was a pretty good balance to Ronald.

The added suspense was a fun addition to this story.
